Dear youth and parents,

On Sunday we hosted nearly 50 youth and parents for our Just Say Know workshops for 4th and 5th graders, a week after hosting over 40 youth and parents for our middle school workshop. I'm thrilled that so many people participated in our sexuality education program, and that many of the participants were friends invited by UCC families. Jennifer Lanter has done an incredible job as the Just Say Know program coordinator, and we were blessed with several gifted individuals who joined Jennifer and I as instructors for the courses: Tom Lanter, Shelagh Larson, Adrienne Taylor, and Kera Watts.

The next program offering will be a weekend retreat for high school youth, scheduled for April 22-24 at Riverbend Retreat Center in Glen Rose. During the weekend we will offer a refresher on some of the information presented during Eighter's Camp at Disciples Crossing, and use it as a foundation as we look at topics that are critical for older youth preparing for life after high school. We are still working out a few details related to pricing and departure time on that Friday, but we plan to have registration open soon and hope that you'll save the date.

Read on for info about programming changes during spring break weeks, snack supper volunteer openings, upcoming lock-ins, and more.

Grace and peace,
Russ

Youth programming changes during spring break weeks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since lots of people will be out of town this week and next for school breaks, here are some changes to the youth program schedule:
Sunday school: Classes meet as usual on Sunday morning, though some will be combined. Refreshments starting at 9:45 in Room 303, then classes from 10:00-10:50.
Youth groups: Chi Rho and CYF will meet as usual this Sunday night, but will not meet on March 13.
Youth handbell choirs: The Whitechapel Bells (grades 6-8) will rehearse this Sunday, then take a break on March 13. The UCC Ringers (grades 9-12) will ring in worship this Sunday morning, and will not rehearse this Sunday evening or March 13.
Snack supper volunteer needed this Sunday evening
Youth parents! See the youth up close, personal and appreciative by serving Snack Supper on Sunday night. Snack supper is a great way to see and get to know the youth, and it's fun!
The commitment is for one Sunday evening, from about 5:30-6:45 p.m., plus cooking or shopping time - you decide how much time you want to spend on preparation. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. in the third floor kitchen for around 50 youth, children, and college students. All the paper goods, cutlery, drink supplies, and most condiments are there for you. You provide the food, fix lemonade (provided), serve everything, and clean up.
The third floor kitchen can be used anytime after 2:30 p.m. on Sundays for advance prep. (Sandwiches are just as popular as anything else, so cooking isn't required if that's not your thing.) If you prefer to purchase all or part of the food already prepared, that's great too. There's also a fridge and freezer you can stash things in. You can choose to donate the meal, or you can be reimbursed up to $100 if you provide itemized receipts. You will receive a reminder e-mail the week before your snack supper that includes additional useful tips and suggested menus.
Ready to volunteer? Use the link below to select a date. Volunteers are needed March 6 (this Sunday), April 17, and April 24:
Registration open for summer camps at Disciples Crossing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Disciples Crossing cross
Our church camp, Disciples Crossing in Athens, has a full slate of camps for children, youth, and families available this summer, and now is the time to sign up and take advantage of early bird pricing. As an additional discount, UCC automatically covers half of the cost for every participant from our church. That means that a week-long camp with a regular price of $370 is only $170 with the early bird discount and UCC supplement. For a promo flyer with dates and descriptions for all the camps, click here

Signing up for summer camps this year is a two step process:
1. Sign up through UCC and pay online at uccyouth.org/camps
2. Register and complete your health forms at disciplescrossing.org/registration

The UCC discount and any parking funds or scholarship monies can be selected on UCC's registration and payment page before proceeding to the camp website. Please be sure to complete the sign up process with UCC and Disciples Crossing by April 15 to ensure you are fully registered for camp and qualify for early bird pricing.

Mark your calendar for a special "Camp Sunday" on March 20 that will give you a convenient "one stop shop" to get registered at UCC while experiencing fun camp-themed activities set up around Walker Hall. (Though, if you're ready to sign up now, use the links above and beat the crowd!)
