Dear youth and parents,

It's been a busy first week for our new summer interns, who have been settling in and getting to know the staff while knocking out some projects around the office. They will be introduced to the congregation on Sunday in both services, so be sure to stop by and say hello. If you'd like to take them out to eat or invite them over for dinner, their contact info is in the article below.

Read on for more information about mission trips, the rice and beans cook-off, mission trip stock sale, volunteering for VBS, and more!

Grace and peace,
Russ

Meet our summer youth ministry interns - Becca & Kiran

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This summer our youth ministry again welcomes two full-time interns who will be learning about ministry here at UCC. After advertising the positions nationally and accepting applications, an interview committee assisted the staff in selecting our interns:
Becca Owen (right) is preparing for her last semester at Chapman University (a Disciple-related school in Orange, California) where she is majoring in Sociology and  minoring in Psychology. Born is Lesotho, she primarily grew up in Austin, Texas where she is a member of United Christian Church.
Kiran Penn (left) just completed his sophomore year at Lynchburg College (a Disciple-related school in Lynchburg, Virginia) where he is majoring in Biology with minors in Religion and Music. He is a native of Patrick Springs, Virginia where he is a member of Trinity Church of the Living God.
Kiran and Becca started their internships on Tuesday and will wrap up on August 3. They will spend part of their time here providing leadership in the youth ministry in Sunday school, at youth events, on mission trips, at camps, and around the office. The rest of their time will be devoted to exploring their own calls to ministry by shadowing and learning from other ministers at UCC and in the Fort Worth area. Both interns will be keeping a journal that chronicles their experiences, and at the end of the summer each one will write a reflection paper that synthesizes what they will take away from the experience. Please give Becca and Kiran a warm welcome as they join our staff for the summer!
Kiran can be reached at kiran.penn@uccftw.com or 817-926-6631 ext 148.
Becca can be reached at becca.owen@uccftw.com or 817-926-6631 ext 268.
Buy mission trip stock and support youth work projects
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stock sale graphic ~
Our congregation has an opportunity to buy stock in our youth mission trips at the table located in the Gallery on Sunday mornings. At $10 per share, the stock will fund work projects at Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries and earns an invitation to a "shareholders luncheon" at the end of the summer to hear about the trips. If you or your child can't make the trip, this is a great way to support youth missions and get an exclusive report about the trips afterward. Just stop by the table in the Gallery any Sunday morning after either worship service or Sunday school from May 31 through June 21 and one of the trip participants will be happy to help you.

CYF Mission Trip participants: You will need to select at least two time slots to sell stock. Click here to go to the sign up page and select your time slots

From Courtney Perry, Sunday Morning Snackage Guru:

Hello all! We are in need of volunteers (adults or youth who can drive) for Sunday morning snack pickups for our middle and high school youth. Thank you to those that have graciously volunteered already this year. This easy job entails picking up pre-ordered snacks from either Circle Donuts or Einstein's Bagels and dropping them off in the youth gathering room by 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings for one month. We currently need volunteers for June and August.

If you have questions, please e-mail me at sundaysnackvolunteers@yahoo.comTo sign up, visit our SignupGenius page via the link below:
