Dear youth and parents,
Our 8th-12th graders and adult chaperones had a great experience at the Islamic Association of Tarrant County last Sunday as our Youth Interfaith Trialogue continued. Here are a couple of photos from our experience learning about Islam and what it's like for young Muslims to practice their faith in Fort Worth:

Trialogue participants receive an orientation to the prayer space at the Islamic Association of Tarrant County.

A Muslim woman shows Allison Ruiz how to put on a hijab (head scarf) before entering the prayer space. We learned that women wearing head scarves has historically been part of all three religious traditions, and can be seen in most artistic depictions of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Maria Dalton and Sofia Yarbrough pick out some of the delicious foods provided at the end of the event, which included homemade dishes from around the world and demonstrated the diversity (and hospitality) of the Muslim community in Fort Worth.
| The final event in the Trialogue series will take place here at UCC on Sunday morning, when we will host the Muslim and Jewish youth for a program on Christianity. See the article below for details on the event.
Read on for information about the girls movie night, CYF retreat departure, annual Youth Thanksgiving Feast, and more.

High school youth depart for CYF Fall Retreat tomorrow ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 | Note: Actual rental van may not look as cool without the early 90's Trapper Keeper artwork. |
A group of our high school youth and adult sponsors will travel to Athens tomorrow for the CYF Fall Retreat at our church camp, Disciples Crossing. Please keep this group in your prayers as they gather with high schoolers from Disciples churches all over north and east Texas to grow closer to God and one another on holy ground.
Retreat participants: Remember to meet at UCC at 7:30 a.m. to load the vehicles for camp, and be sure to eat breakfast before you arrive! A packing list for the weekend is available here if you missed the e-mail earlier this week. You will be back in time to participate in the Trialogue on Sunday morning from 10 a.m. - noon.

Youth Interfaith Trialogue continues this Sunday morning ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's 8th-12th grade youth are joining Jewish and Muslim youth for an "interfaith trialogue" spread over four Sundays. Our youth participated in a similar event in 2009, and many of them list it as one of the highlights of their time at UCC. This year's event has been just as interesting, educational, and meaningful so far. After meeting at Beth-El Congregation and the Islamic Association of Tarrant County, it's our turn to host the final event at UCC. Here is the schedule for this Sunday:
November 16: Meet in Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. to prepare to welcome Muslim and Jewish youth to UCC for a program on Christianity. We will provide a tour of the sanctuary, a presentation of Christian and Disciple beliefs and practices, and small group time that allows our youth to answer questions and share how they live out their faith. We will all share a hearty brunch around 10:45, and the program will wrap up at noon. 8th-12th grade Sunday school classes will not meet.
Parents: If you would like to help out with hospitality this Sunday morning, please contact me and let me know. We will need people to help with decorating, setting out the food, greeting, and helping direct our guests around the building.

4th (almost) annual Youth Thanksgiving Feast is coming! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
The 4th (almost) annual Youth Thanksgiving Feast will be Sunday, November 23 and all 6th-12th graders, volunteers, and parents are invited. Turkey will be provided, and we ask that everyone bring a side or dessert to share. Food should be brought to the 3rd floor kitchen between 5 and 5:15 p.m. for setup, and from 5:30 to 6:30 we will enjoy dinner and fun Thanksgiving activities in Room 303.
If you plan to attend, please click the SignUpGenius icon below to see what others have signed up to bring and add your side or dessert to the list. Five green bean casseroles is probably enough (for most people, anyway).
