Dear youth and parents,
This year the youth ministry introduced Roots, a new program designed to help 6th graders transition into the youth ministry by connecting them with high school mentors. A dedicated group of high schoolers collaborated with Alison Nicoll to create the program, recruit mentors, communicate with 6th grade families, plan and execute events, and evaluate the program to make it even more effective next year. I'm grateful that our high school youth took the initiative to make this happen. It says a lot that they sensed the need for a program like this, and took it upon themselves to work with the staff to put it together and get it off the ground. If your child participated in the program this year (either as a 6th grader or mentor) I hope that it was a meaningful experience. All of the participants will be gathering Sunday morning during the Sunday school hour to celebrate this inaugural year of Roots, and I'm looking forward to seeing a great program get even better next year with a new group of 6th graders and mentors!

Roots end-of-the-year event this Sunday morning ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
From Alison Nicoll, Assistant Minister for Middle School:
Roots participants! This Sunday, May 18 during the Sunday School hour (10:00-10:50 a.m.), 6th graders and high school mentors will be capping off the end of the Roots year together. During this time we will be catching up with one another, learning about summer plans, and celebrating the relationships we have built with good food and fun activities to commemorate this year. This will be a great way to end our year together and I can't wait to see you there!

Interested in volunteering with the Room In The Inn ministry? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
Are you interested in volunteering with Room In The Inn? This incredible ministry provides our homeless neighbors with delicious meals, a shower, good company, and a peaceful night's sleep on Wednesday nights during the coldest and hottest months of the year. Volunteers help prepare and serve meals, dine and play card games with our guests, set up and clean up the dining and sleeping areas and more. To participate in this ministry, plan to attend the volunteer training this Sunday, May 18 from 12:15 p.m. in the Room In The Inn space (lunch provided) and contact Carol Stewart at [email protected] or 972.239.7769 to RSVP. This is a wonderful opportunity to build relationships across generations while making a real difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors, so if you have time to help come be a part of Room In The Inn!

Stock sale to support mission trips begins Sunday, May 25 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Starting on Sunday morning, May 25 our congregation has an opportunity to buy stock in our youth mission trips at the table located in the Gallery. At $10 per share, the stock will fund work projects on the Yakama Indian Reservation and earns an invitation to a "shareholders luncheon" at the end of the summer to hear about the trips. If you or your child can't make the trip, this is a great way to support youth missions and get an exclusive report about the trips afterward. Just stop by the table in the Gallery any Sunday morning after either worship service or Sunday school from May 25 - June 22 and one of the trip participants will be happy to help you.
