Dear youth and parents,

Sorry this week's e-news is arriving a bit late.  As I mentioned last week, I left for Korea with the Army Reserve early on Thursday morning, but wasn't able to finish the e-news before my battery died on the airplane.  After 26 hours of travel I'm now on an Army post using wifi in the dining hall and can finally finish up!

Read on for details about the new Roots program, Promotion Sunday, the annual Youth Family Roundup, and more.

Grace and Peace,
Russ

Roots program for new 6th graders kicks off this Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roots image
Several of UCC's high school youth have worked with Alison Nicoll to create a mentoring program for new 6th graders called "Roots."  6th graders who choose to participate in the program will be matched with a high schooler who will help them make a smooth transition into the youth ministry.  Roots kicks off this Sunday when 6th grade participants and high school mentors meet one another during the Sunday school hour in Room 303.  A letter and follow-up e-mail about the program went out to parents of all new 6th graders recently, but if you missed the information or would simply like to learn more about Roots, contact Alison at alison.nicoll@uccftw.com.
Meet Michael Yandell!
We're beginning an exciting new year in UCC's youth ministry, and there's so much to share about what's coming up and how to get involved!  To help get everyone oriented and excited we're hosting a Youth Family Roundup on Sunday evening, August 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 207.  All 6th-12th grade youth and parents are invited to join us for a fun and informative night where you can:
- Meet our staff, teachers, and youth group sponsors
- Get your copy of the fancy new Youth Directory
- Pick up a major events calendar to plan ahead through 2014
- Hear about this year's camps, retreats, and mission trips
- Sign up for volunteer opportunities big and small
- Preview our weekly youth programming
- Buy snack supper punch cards for Sunday night meals
- Hear about (and sign up for) our youth handbell choirs
- Pre-register for Disciples Class, our baptism prep course
- Pre-register for the CYF Ski Retreat
- Take what you're learning and use it to win fun prizes throughout the night
Youth and parents will all meet together from 6:30-7:00, then youth will head upstairs for their first Chi Rho and CYF youth group meetings of the year while parents continue in 207.  Round up your classmates and other parents and we'll see you there, pardner!
