---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear youth and parents,
Today is the last day of Vacation Bible School, and I'm thrilled that nearly 40 youth and college students served as volunteer leaders. It's a great experience for those youth and emerging adults, a huge help for UCC's children's ministry, and our younger kids love being around the youth. However, there are benefits down the road as well. Research indicates that youth who volunteer with younger kids at church are the most likely to continue to live an active life of faith after they graduate. There's something about a teenager acting as a role model who is responsible for passing along faith to the next generation that creates the kind of "sticky faith" that we're striving for in our ministry with youth and children at UCC. For a crash course on what does (and doesn't) help faith stick beyond high school, I highly encourage you to read this article by Kara Powell and Brad Griffin of the Fuller Youth Institute. (Some of you may have read it before, but it's worth another look.) The specific phenomenon I have described can be found in "Intergenerational Insight #2."
Read on for info about campers departing for Eighter's Camp, following the CYF Mission Trip online, the upcoming Chi Rho outing to Main Event, and more!
Grace and Peace,
Russ

Mission trip stock sale raises $1,750 for work projects ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The annual Mission Trip Stock Sale ended on Sunday, and when all the purchases were tallied the grand total was 175 shares of stock sold to the congregation. That means that the group heading to Memphis on the CYF Mission Trip will have $1,750 available to spend on work projects at First Congregational Church. Thanks to everyone for your generosity, and we will look forward to seeing you at the Shareholders' Luncheon on August 4!
