Dear youth and parents,
On Wednesday evening over 100 people gathered for the Senior Banquet, an event that pays tribute to the accomplishments of our high school graduates and provides an opportunity for their church family to let them know how much we care for them. Throughout the evening we shared dinner, looked at displays created by each graduate's family, interviewed each of the graduates about their future plans, presented them with gifts from the youth ministry (a UCC laundry bag) and the People's Bible Class (an academic study Bible for college), watched a photo slideshow with shots of them over the years, and offered a blessing to send them on their way. Susan Rogers led a team of volunteers that put in lots of work to make this a special night, and if you weren't able to be present I hope that you will plan to attend next year. Be sure to stop by the table in the Gallery over the next few Sundays to see a beautiful display featuring UCC's Class of 2013 created by Laurie Hix, and (if you haven't done so already) tell our graduates that you're proud of them!

Youth Sunday is here! All youth on deck this weekend!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~ Youth in grades 6-12 will be leading the 9 and 11 a.m. worship services as part of UCC's annual Youth Sunday this weekend. Speaking parts have been assigned, but we need many more youth to come for rehearsal and the services to serve as greeters, ushers, sanctuary decorators, and more. Here's the schedule for the weekend:
Saturday
- Rehearsal in the Sanctuary from 1-3 p.m.
- T-shirts distributed at rehearsal - everybody wears one, only $5 to keep it
Sunday
- Walk-through, decorating, and final assignments in Sanctuary - 8-8:45 a.m.- Services at 9 and 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary - Sunday school from 10 - 10:45 a.m. on the 3rd floor - Final snack supper and youth groups for this year - 6:00-7:45 p.m. PARENTS: Your assistance in making sure your youth is present for rehearsal, walk-through, and/or services is appreciated! |

Come hungry for Breakfast with the Guys this Saturday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~
Breakfast with the Guys, a quarterly event hosted by UCC's Men's Ministry, will take place tomorrow, May 3 at 8:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall and guys of all ages are invited. The program this quarter will feature a panel of UCC members moderated by Rev. Daniel Terry discussing the joys, challenges and dilemmas of fatherhood. The menu typically includes eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy and more. A $5 donation is requested to help cover expenses. Whether you're a youth or an adult, we hope to see you there!

Jessica Vacketta's ordination to ministry next Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Following her graduation from Brite Divinity School, Jessica Vacketta will be ordained to Christian ministry on Sunday, May 12 at 3 p.m. in our Sanctuary. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this meaningful worship service that recognizes Jessica's accomplishments and calling to serve as an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Registration continues for Disciples Crossing summer camps

Remember that UCC is covering $100 of the registration cost for those who register early for 6th-12th grade camps (already reflected in the documents above), and additional full or half scholarships are available to cover the early-bird price if needed. The registration deadline is May 12, so be sure to complete your form, turn it in to Sharyn Peterson in the youth office, and have a great time at camp this summer!

Sign up now for mission trips to Memphis and Houston
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~ Registration flyers for our summer youth mission trips are now available! Here's the skinny on both trips:
The Chi Rho Mission Trip to Houston for grades 6-8 will take place June 9-12. The group will be working at the Houston Food Bank for several days and cooling off at Schlitterbahn Water Park in Galveston at the end of the trip. Cost is $175 per person and full or half scholarships are available upon request. Full details are available on the registration flyer.
The CYF Mission Trip to Memphis for grades 9-12 will take place June 30 - July 6. The group will be working at several inner city agencies, touring Rhodes College, and visiting several cultural attractions in the area (including the National Civil Rights Museum at the former Lorraine Motel). Cost is $350 per person and full or half scholarships are available upon request. Full details are available on the registration flyer.
If you're ready to sign up, simply turn in your registration flyer and $50 deposit to Sharyn Peterson in the youth office and we'll see you in the trip!
