Dear youth and parents,
We had a great weekend at Disciples Crossing for the Chi Rho Fall Retreat. The weather was beautiful, and our Chi Rho sponsor (and regular choir soloist) Brittany Sellers did a fantastic job as a co-director of the event. We also raised over $1,000 in soup pots after our morning worship services for Week of Compassion and the Tarrant Area Food Bank as part of the nationwide Souper Bowl of Caring. On top of that, several participants in our afternoon Super Bowling outing raised additional funds from individuals who made pledges based on the number of pins they knocked down. It was a great weekend, and I'm glad so many of you were able to participate!

Grace and Peace, Russ

Jessica Vacketta officially approved for ordination to ministry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During a meeting of the Regional Commission on Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest on January 28, Jessica Vacketta had her final ordination interview. After answering questions from the 20+ members of the commission about the Bible, theology, pastoral ministry, counseling, and her own unique gifts and sense of calling, they unanimously approved Jessica for ordination following her graduation from Brite Divinity School. Cyndy Twedell, who sat in the interview with Jessica as a member of her Congregational Care Team, raved about how phenomenal her answers were as she fielded tough questions and hypothetical scenarios. In fact, the members of the commission even applauded one of her answers. (Something I've never heard of!)
Jessica will graduate from Brite on May 11, and her ordination service is tentatively scheduled for May 12 at 3 p.m. in UCC's sanctuary. Be sure to congratulate Jessica the next time you see her, or send her an e-mail letting her know you're proud of her! |
