10 Best Books of 2014
|
Here's a sampling of what I've been working on lately for my clients:
- Articles for International Bowling Industry magazine on new bowling apps and how the United States Marines are upgrading their bowling facilities.
- The second in a series of trade articles on how auto dealerships can improve the handling of prospect calls and set more showroom appointments.
- A press release for a leading general insurance agency serving employee benefits brokers and agents throughout California.
Book 'Em Looking for a good read? This month I recommend: Why is the Stanley Cup in Mario Lemieux's Swimming Pool?
by Kevin Allen
(Triumph Books) Hockey fans know that NHL players have a complicated relationship with the "greatest trophy in sports." They revere it so much that they will not touch it unless they have played on a Cup-winning team. To do otherwise would be to court bad luck, or worse, the disappointment of a lifetime.
But it's a different story after a team wins the Cup. After that, almost anything goes! Players have eaten cereal out of the Cup, fed their pets from it and sat their babies in it. It has been on "The Tonight Show," to European villages and Canadian lakeside cottages.
It has also been "lost" or "stolen" a few times, and did indeed take a plunge into Mario Lemieux's swimming pool. It took more than a few strong hockey players to get it out of the pool!
This is pure fun for hockey fans. Although no longer in print, you will find used copies on Amazon.com and other sites.
END NOTES:
In the November issue I recommended Phil Klay's stunning short story collection about the Long Wars, "Redeployment." I'm thrilled to report that the New York Times Book Review has selected "Redeployment" as one of the ten best books of 2014.
