Moving Forward for an Energy Efficient Montana and Northwest 


Energy efficiency encourages jobs, affordability, competitiveness and resiliency throughout the Pacific Northwest. To address the challenges of energy affordability, sustainability, climate adaptation, and economic development, the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) is developing a Roadmap to Resilient, Net-Zero Buildings and Deep Energy Retrofits by 2030.  


 

PNWER is a statutory, non-partisan, organization chartered by Montana, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, the Canadian provinces and territories of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and the Yukon.

 

This Roadmap will bring together the diverse expertise from each of our jurisdictions and
we need your perspective on Montana's best policy practices and technological innovations in the energy efficient construction and retrofit sector.

You are invited to join your colleagues in the energy efficiency, sustainability, workforce, and economic development fields on June 23rd as we discuss the most recent progress on the Roadmap.

You are also invited to the Energy and Environment Session, taking place on July 14th, at the 2015 Annual Summit in Big Sky July 12 - 16. Over 500 regional legislators and business leaders will attend the 4-day conference covering over 20 different issue areas. The Energy and Environment Working Groups session agenda is available here. Political and business leaders in the energy efficient field will be attending and we need your input on the dynamic state of Montana's energy efficiency sector. 


 

You also have the opportunity to learn about grid development, EPA 111(d), the impact of low oil prices and other topics while networking with policymakers and business stakeholders. The complete agenda is online. 



During the June 23rd Webinar, learn about the 16 case studies of upgrades to new and existing buildings that span across all ten PNWER jurisdictions, along with opportunities to collaborate with the Steering Committee, and how cutting edge organizations can sponsor this innovative public/private initiative. 

 

This roadmap focuses on two targets, premised on energy efficiency improvements in residential, commercial, public sector and industrial settings:

 

1) Facilitate the achievement of net zero emissions for new houses and buildings by 2030, including achievement of an energy efficiency target and use of clean energy supplies.

 

2) Encourage "deep" energy retrofits of existing buildings that optimize the economics of energy efficiency upgrades to lower energy bills and emissions.

Roadmap Background

Inspired by the Architecture 2030 Challenge, the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) has chartered its Energy and Environment Working Group to develop and implement a shared "Roadmap to Resilient NetZero Construction and Deep Retrofits by 2030," as a means of promoting energy efficient, resilient buildings across all its member jurisdictions.

Legislative and Private Sector Support

PNWER is the only statutory, non-partisan, bi-national, public / private partnership in North America, with goals of strengthening relationships, finding cross-border solutions to common challenges, and advocating for regional interests.

PNWER was created by statute in 1991 by the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington, the Canadian provinces and territories of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and the Yukon

At the 2014 Annual Summit Executive Committee Meeting, the PNWER Board endorsed the Roadmap. Executive Board members:
