PNWER visits Juneau, Olympia, Boise, and Helena
We visit state capitals each year to share accomplishments of PNWER with our member jurisdictions, identify issues and concerns from legislators, and recruit LEHI and Delegate Council Members to take part in PNWER's many programs! Stay tuned this spring for our visits to the Canadian capitals.
Boise
We had a eventful visit with Lieutenant Governor Brad Little and Idaho State Legislative Leadership. Our delegation included our incoming PNWER president, Sen. Curt McKenzie, Idaho, joined by MLA Alana Delong from Alberta; David Kettles, Alberta Government; Matt Morrison, Director, PNWER; Brandon Hardenbrook, Deputy Director, PNWER; Megan Levy, Program Manager, PNWER; and Gloria Totoricagüena, Coordinator, PNWER Idaho Council

The delegation met with leadership in both the Senate and House to discuss Idaho's priorities for PNWER in 2015. Here Sen. Curt McKenzie reviews the successes of 2014 with the President of the Senate, Sen. Brent Hill.

The delegation's discussion topics with legislators included important topics such as the Columbia River Treaty Resolution, a presentation to the Senate transportation committee, and an update on PNWER's invasive species projects by Megan Levy. The delegation also discussed the Idaho Cybersecurity Interdependencies workshop, which was hosted by PNWER in November and provided a regional discussion of current cyber threats and common challenges with managing complex data, personal information, and cyber systems

Lt. Governor Brad Little met with the delegation to discuss priorities relating to cyber security, the Columbia River Treaty, and transportation.

This successful capital visit gave legislators and government officials from the region a great opportunity to network and learn more about what is in store for Idaho during the upcoming legislative session.

Juneau
The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) held a successful Capital Visit in Juneau on Jan. 22 and 23. Delegates attended several high-level meetings with Lt. Governor Byron Mallott and Alaska State Legislative Leadership.

The Delegation included PNWER Vice President, Alana DeLong, MLA from Alberta, joined by Colin Smith, APEG-BC, Matt Morrison, PNWER Executive Director, David Kettles, Alberta Government, Samantha Paterson, Yukon Economic Development and Steve Myers, PNWER Program Manager.
In the afternoon of Thursday, January 22nd, the delegation gave a testimony to a special joint House and Senate committee on Arctic affairs. The delegation also met with Senate and House leadership and attended Governor Bill Walker's state of the state address.
Olympia
The Olympia capital visit began on Jan. 28 in Olympia, Wash. The visiting delegation included Senator Curt McKenzie, Idaho, Incoming PNWER President; Cathy Olesen, MLA, Alberta; Dan Ashton, MLA, British Columbia, Premier's representative to the Pacific Northwest Economic Region; Sen. In the morning of January 28th,
the PNWER delegation met with Washington Senator Kevin Ranker and Keith Philips, Energy Policy Adviser to Governor Jay Inslee. The meeting focused on regional energy issues and updates on Gov. Inslee's carbon proposal.

During the legislator meet and greet lunch, Arnie Roblan explained the goals of PNWER for the next year and asked attendees to share their thoughts on the issues they felt could benefit from a regional perspective.

Helena
PNWER also took a visiting delegation to Helena, Montana to discuss key issues in the region and the upcoming summit in Big Sky, Montana. PNWER met with Montana Legislative Leadership and Governor Steve Bullock to discuss potential policy tours and keynote speakers at the Big Sky Summit. This visit was also a wonderful opportunity to share regional issues and concerns that were brought up at previous capital visits to identify next steps and topics of discussion for our Summit in July.
These successful capital visits gave legislators and government officials from the region a great opportunity to network and learn more about what is in store for each state during the upcoming legislative session.
