Pacific Northwest Gateway:
Working Waterfront Session
Explore the dynamics of global trade in the region during this working session on the water touring Elliot Bay. Experienced industry and public sector leaders will provide valuable context on the importance of the maritime sector to the regional economy. Topics include:
  • Emerging global trade patterns
  • Intermodal transportation linkages
  • The effect of the expanded Panama Canal on West coast shipping
  • Rail backlogs for bulk shipments including agricultural goods, coal, and oil

Featured speakers are expected to include SSA Marine (terminal operator), Vigor Marine (shipbuilder), port officials and other maritime and cruise industry representatives.

An Argosy cruise ship will serve as the venue for the Pacific Northwest Gateway Session on the water, where you'll learn about these important issues while taking in the beautiful scenery of the Seattle waterfront. The session takes place on Friday morning, Nov. 22, from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. It will precede afternoon discussions on intermodal transportation and regional market access. This session is included in your registration package and will be the primary event for Friday morning.

Early bird rates expire on October 12. Register today!

The Meeting
Our Economic Leadership Forum will take place Nov. 19 - 22 in Seattle, Wash. This meeting provides an opportunity for local, state, and provincial leaders in both the public and private sectors to carry out in-depth, focused discussions on key subjects effecting our regional economy. Leaders from throughout the U.S. states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, and the Canadian provinces/territories of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Yukon and Northwest Territories will be in attendance tackling the policy matters that drive the economic strength of the region. View the agenda.
The Setting
PNWER's Economic Leadership Forum will be held in beautiful Seattle, Washington. Seattle is the Pacific Northwest's largest city, and the United States' fastest-growing major city.

You must book your room before October 20. Seattle is a popular destination, and therefore has limited hotel capacity.

The Winter Meeting will take place in the Hyatt at Olive 8 (pictured left) in downtown Seattle. We hope you can join us!

The Sessions
PNWER will host the Winter Meeting in conjunction with two other conferences, including the Converge@Seattle Innovation Summit and an Invasive Species conference. Several of our working groups will also meet, including Ocean & Energy, Transportation & Market Access, Workforce, and Energy & Environment. This working session will identify next steps for developing a perimeter strategy for partnerships to prevent the spread of fresh water invasive mussels into the region.
>>> Transportation & Market Access: November 21

This session will examine port operating trends (ex. some moving to bulk shipments vs. containers) and potential opportunities to expand operations. We will also take a look at multi-modal transportation challenges and opportunities, focusing on rail, barge, trucking and new possible areas for investment in infrastructure to increase trade flow.
