Graduates of the 2013 Legislative Leadership Academy

Thank you to all our delegates for contributing to a successful Legislative Leadership Academy and Economic Leadership Forum!

More than 125 legislators, business and government leaders gathered together to address key issues affecting the regional economy Nov. 13-16, in Banff, Alberta.

During the Legislative Leadership Academy, legislators explored the similarities and differences between the two political systems through in-depth roundtable exercises. Following the academy, Economic Leadership Forum participants enjoyed informative speakers and discussions in the Energy, Market Access, Transportation, Workforce, Disaster Resilience and Invasive Species sessions.

If you were unable to join us in Banff, session proceedings and presentations are available here.

The meeting produced several new action items regarding invasive species policy and Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (MCOOL). We will be working on these and previous action items over the next several months as we prepare for our Annual Summit in Whistler, B.C. July 20th-24th. The action items can be viewed here.

Event photos may be viewed and downloaded for your use from our Facebook page

We especially want to thank our faculty Dr. Don Alper, Western Washington University, and Prof. Mike Treleaven, Gonzaga University for leading the wonderful Legislative Leadership Academy.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for the 2014 Annual Summit in Whistler, B.C. July 20 - 24, 2014. Registration will open in January. For more information, visit the Summit website and plan on bringing your family for an incredible vacation to British Columbia!

Dr. Ian Brodie, University of Calgary and former Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Harper, addresses the U.S. - Canadian relationship during his keynote speech.  The video of the event is available here.

Kate Wilson,  Alberta Environment and Resource Development, discusses the economic impacts of zebra and quagga mussels. The invasive mussels were recently detected in Lake Winnipeg. Several action items were developed out of the session and can be found here.
