The Annual Economic Leadership Forum provides an opportunity for local, state, and provincial leaders in both the public and private sectors to carry out in-depth, focused discussions on key subjects effecting our regional economy. Here are some of the leaders you'll hear from at the meeting:
 
Keynote Speakers

 

Sen. Mike Crapo, U.S. Senate, Idaho (via teleconference), is a lifelong Idahoan and third-term U.S. Senator for Idaho. Senator Crapo serves as the fifth-ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, giving Idaho an added voice in legislation that impacts their daily lives. This committee has a strong influence on what tax structure our country uses, how to execute certain health and human services programs and implementation of reciprocal trade agreements. Dr. Laura Dawson, President, Dawson Strategic, provides advice to business on cross-border trade, market access and regulatory services. Previously, she served as senior adviser on U.S.-Canadian economic affairs at the United States Embassy in Ottawa. As a specialist in U.S. - Canada economic relations, Dawson contributed to the launch of the U.S.-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council, the Border Vision and Strategy, and the bilateral Government Procurement Agreement. Lt. Gov. Brad Little, was appointed Idaho's 37th Lieutenant Governor on January 6, 2009. A native of Emmett in Gem County, Little is a third-generation Idahoan. He has dedicated his life and career to continuing both his family's ranching interests and its history of service to the people of Idaho. A graduate of the University of Idaho, Little has strived to be a good steward of the land as well as a responsible citizen. He has succeeded in both areas by encouraging sustainable agriculture and by getting involved in public policy from a young age. [Read full bio] 
 
Jeff Morris, Director, PNWER's Energy Horizon Program, is recognized as one of the most prominent leaders on energy and technology policy. He serves on two national energy task forces, one on transmission and as co-chair of another on energy strategy. As Principal of Energy Horizon LLC, Mr. Morris directs the Pacific Northwest Economic Region's Energy Portfolio. The U.S. Department of Energy has recognized Mr. Morris' work by naming him a "West Coast Power Player."  

As a former provincial Minister of the Environment, Barry Penner, Q.C., has extensive knowledge of legislative processes and policy-making across government, particularly in the area of environmental regulation and energy development. He most recently served as Attorney General of British Columbia and also served as Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation. Mr. Penner was an elected Member of British Columbia's Legislative Assembly (MLA) for almost 16 years, before joining the international law firm of Davis LLP as a Strategic Advisor. [Read Full Bio]
 
Dr. Christopher Sands is a Senior Fellow at Hudson Institute, where he specializes on Canada and U.S.-Canadian relations, as well as North American economic integration. He is also a professorial lecturer at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, an adjunct professor in Government at the American University School of Public Affairs, and lectures at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State and for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. 

  

Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer, III is recognized as a pioneer in digital protection and holds the grade of Fellow of the IEEE, a title bestowed on less than one percent of IEEE members. In 2002, he was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Schweitzer received the 2012 Medal in Power Engineering, the highest award given by IEEE, for his leadership in revolutionizing the performance of electrical power systems with computer-based protection and control equipment.
