Calendar Approved for 2014-2015

The 2014-2015 Academic Calendar was approved at the regular School Board meeting in February.


A Showcase of Animated Short Films:
 
Tim McLaughlin, Department Head and Associate Professor from Texas A&M University, on the Pine Tree High School campus. McLaughlin, also a PT Alum, will feature animated short films, which were designed and created by TAMU students.  Read more.

David Collins from Lake Travis HS 
will be Proposed as New AD for PTISD

 
 
Pine Tree ISD Board of Trustees will vote on a lone finalist for the position of Athletic Director/Head Football Coach next week. Coach David A. Collins, currently serving Lake Travis High School, will be proposed as the new leader of the Pine Tree Pirates in a special called board meeting scheduled for Monday, February 24, 2014, at 6:00 p.m, at the Central Administration Building.  Read More.
 
A reception to meet Coach Collins is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. also in the board room.



PT High School Students Use 21st Century Tools to Understand 19th Century Life



Pine Tree High School students enrolled in Kilgore College's dual credit U.S. history class now understand the poor conditions low-income families lived in during 1879.

Twenty-four students were broken down into two classes and six teams on Wednesday and re-created floor plans of low-income housing based on an 1879 contest done by the New York Housing Authority.

In a steadfast quest toward transforming education, the Pine Tree Independent School District will launch the first annual - Innovation Showcase, a new event for students and families in Pine Tree ISD.

Where: PT High School Campus, 1701 Pine Tree Road, Longview, TX

Who: All students and families in the Pine Tree ISD community

What: The Innovation Showcase features students sharing their projects and experiences in a variety of ways. Food vendors will be on site for families to enjoy eating dinner during the event.

SAIL Project at PTHS Leads to Community Service in Neighborhood 

  

Pine Tree High School Leadership and Interact Club, in partnership with the City of Longview and Go West Longview will come together to clean up Birdie Park and the neighborhood surrounding the park on Saturday, Feb. 15.

 

ET Swimming: Pine Tree's Jones Qualifies for State

Pine Tree's Jacob Jones took first place in the 200 and 500 freestyle at the regional swim meet in Frisco to advance to the state meet Feb. 21 and 22 in Austin.  Jones won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.54 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.07. Both of those times were personal bests for him and school records.  As a team, Pine Tree placed fourth on the boys' side and fifth in the girls.
 

Jones recorded a fifth-place finish in the Class 4A boys 500-yard freestyle at the state swimming and diving championships at the University of Texas' Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

 

Jones' time was 4:40.56, which was a personal best and a new school record.  Jones also competed in the 200-yard freestyle where he placed 10th in the preliminaries. On Saturday, he finished with a time of 1:43.71, also a personal best and new school record.  Read more.

 
 

Kimberley Davis, PTHS 11th grade student was recently presented an award from her English teacher Ms. Garner.  Read more.
 Caleb Chumley Signs with UNT
  
 
Caleb Chumley learned a lot during his senior season at Pine Tree.  Sidelined by an injury, the 6-5, 240-pound athlete knew he just had to keep fighting.  The hard work came to fruition on Wednesday when Chumley signed his national letter-of-intent to the University of North Texas, surrounded by family, teammates and coaches at the Pirate Center.  Not only is it official that Chumley will head to Denton to join the Mean Green, he did so on his 18th birthday.   Election Cycle Begins for School Board and County Races in Pine Tree ISD Area

 

 

Residents in the west Longview area of Pine Tree school district will consider two seats open for election for the Pine Tree ISD Board of Trustees, and a Gregg County Commissioner position for Precinct 2. 

Early voting continues this week for the MARCH 4th Primary Election.

Primary Campus Celebrates the 
100th Day of School



The Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school on Friday, February 4, 2014. Principal Becky Balboa said many activities were planned.

Mrs. Johns, the campus music teacher, kicked off the celebration by leading the students in 100 Day songs.
Mrs. Walton and Ms. Manning, the campus teachers for PE lead students with 100 exercises.
Small bottles of bubbles were provided for the students to try and blow 100 bubbles.  Art projects were displayed around the campus. Read More.

  
Congratulations to Arthur Dixon and Luke Mitchell for placing 2nd at the UIL district meet for CX Debate competition in Hallsville on February 4, 2014. They defeated 2 out of the 3 Hallsville debate teams to secure a place at the state meet in Austin on March 12, 2014. 

  
Instructor, Mary Graham was proud to announce the accomplishments of students at the February 7th Kilgore College Art Symposium. Nine senior art students participated in the annual competition, which involves a senior portfolio review and scholarship competition.
