Building on the momentum of the Cleveland Foundation's sponsorship of the Gay Games, Funders for LGBTQ Issues invites you to a learning tour on LGBTQ issues in Ohio. This learning tour will foster cross-learning between national LGBTQ funders and local Ohio-based funders, providing a vehicle for engaging and educating new Ohio-based funders around LGBTQ issues while allowing national funders to learn in depth about the needs and opportunities in a specific state.   • Funding Forward 2016 Presentations

Requests for Proposals
  • The Out in the South Fund has released its first request for proposals from LGBTQ-focused funds based in the U.S. South. As part of Funders for LGBTQ Issues' ongoing efforts to increase sustainable grantmaking for Southern LGBTQ communities, the Out in the South Fund is a collaborative fund that will provide matching dollars and planning grants for LGBTQ-focused community funds in the South. Through this partnership, local funds will then be able to provide funding to help build the capacity of community-based organizations working to improve the lives of LGBTQ Southerners through advocacy, culture change efforts and effective service provision.  The deadline for submissions is June 1st. For more information and to submit an application, please click here.  
  • The Adam Foundation provides funding with an emphasis on Forsyth County-based LGBT advocacy, education, and social service organizations and programs. The deadline for application is April 30th. For more information and to apply, click here.
  • AIDS 2016 is partnering with the South Africa Development Fund to provide an additional 200 registrations from the newly created Civil Society Access Initiative. The initiative is aimed to increase the number of civil society participants from Sub-Saharan Africa to the AIDS 2016 conference in Durban. It is open to people from Sub-Saharan Africa working or volunteering in the field of HIV and AIDS and people living with HIV and/or belong to a community that is disproportionately affected by HIV.   • The American Psychological Foundation has announced its 2016 Drs. Rosalee G. And Raymond A. Weiss Research and Program Innovation Grant, which supports innovative research, education, and intervention efforts that advance psychological knowledge and application in understanding the connection between behavior and health; reducing stigma and prejudice; understanding and preventing all forms of violence; and addressing long-term psychological needs in the aftermath of disaster. The deadline for application is September 15th. For more information and to apply, click here.
  • Groundswell Fund has launched a Rapid Response Fund, a funding vehicle dedicated to moving resources quickly and strategically for unforeseen needs and opportunities. There will be no deadline or formal grant cycle for Rapid Response Fund grants. Grant requests may range from $5,000 -$30,000. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis as they are submitted. For more information about the 2016 grants and to apply, download the RFP here.
  • The 2016 Social Innovation Fund Classic grant competition will provide up to $39 million to eligible grantmaking institutions seeking to grow innovative, evidence-based solutions to challenges facing low-income communities nationwide in our focus areas of healthy futures, youth development and economic opportunity. Each selected grantmaker will be awarded $1 million to $10 million and will match every federal dollar of the grant award. The majority of awarded federal funds must be invested in subgrantee programs, who match their grants 1:1 as well.   • Campaign for Southern Equality has announced a new round of the Southern Equality Fund focused on queer youth across North Carolina at this critical time. The Fund is a grantmaking initiative designed to direct resources to grassroots LGBT* groups and elevate LGBT* leadership across the South, especially in small towns and rural areas. The deadline for application is May 15th. For more information and to apply, click here.
  • Stonewall Community Foundation has announced the Traub-Dicker Rainbow Scholarship which provides dozens of scholarships that benefit LGBTQ woman-identified students. In addition to furthering access to education and employment, these funds often provide a financial safety net in the absence of family support. The deadline for application is May 18th. For more information and to apply, click here.
  • Viiv Healthcare announced a new funding opportunity - Organizing and Engagement Grants to Boost Empowerment and Nurture Networks - the first of its ACCELERATE! Initiative. ACCELERATE! is a four-year, $10 million commitment to fund innovative and promising projects that support the health and well-being of Black gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men in two cities hardest hit by HIV - Baltimore, Maryland, and Jackson, Mississippi. The deadline for application is May 6th. For more information and to apply, click here.

  • Our Fund

    Our Fund announced its Winter 2016 grant awards totaling $78,750 for twelve grantees, including three first-time grantees, that will directly address LGBT causes in South Florida.

Masen Davis
Masen, a former Funders for LGBTQ Issues Board Member and Executive Director of Transgender Law Center, was welcomed as a regent lecturer at the Williams Institute for the month of April.


Matthew "Matty" Hart
Matty, GPP Coordinator and Funders for LGBTQ Issues Board Member, was awarded the Red Thread Award by the Ariadne Network for exemplary use of the Ariadne Portal to advance the causes of social change and human rights with grace and skill.  


Hugh Hogan
After 13 extraordinary years as the Executive Director of The North Star Fund, Hugh has announced his departure for a new role as the Executive Director of van Ameringen Foundation that supports prevention, education, and direct care in the mental health field, particularly among low-income communities. Many congratulations, Hugh!
