Rheometer is Newest Piece of Research Equipment
The Bioscience Research Building (BRB) is home to a new state-of-the-art rheometer. A rheometer is a laboratory device used to measure the way in which a liquid, suspension, or slurry flows in response to applied forces. The ability to define a solution's rheology and viscosity is critical in the areas of drug product design and quality evaluation. This is particularly true for injectables, emulsions, ointments, and other liquid, semisolid products and advanced drug delivery systems. Rheology is also a critical physiological property for everyday products such as toothpaste, shampoo, and even ice cream.

HVIAC Fall All-Academic Team includes 19 Panthers
The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its Fall All-Academic team last week, and there are 19 ACPHS student-athletes on the list. The All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who have (1) reached sophomore academic standing, (2) earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better at the conclusion of the fall semester, and (3) participated in one of the conference's fall sports (qualifying sports for ACPHS were soccer and cross country). There were a total 47 ACPHS student-athletes eligible for the honor, which means more than 40% of participants earned the distinction. ACPHS also had the most student-athletes on the list - the next closest school had 14.

Vermont Students Conduct Blood Pressure Screenings
This past weekend five students from the Vermont Campus - Janelle Puleo, Marci Wood, Princess Ohene (seated), Ricki Zepeda, and Yuyu Chen - visited the Kinney Drugs store in Essex Junction to conduct blood pressure screenings. The team was assisted by pharmacist Hayley Hooks. If a patient had high blood pressure, students first asked if they were taking any blood pressure medications to make sure they were taking them properly and then advised them to follow up with their primary care physician. Approximately 15 patients were successfully screened during the clinic.
