Dr. Cen Receives Blythe Award at ACPHS Research Forum
The College held its sixth annual Research Forum on Saturday, January 23. As part of the Forum, the College announced that Yana Cen, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the Vermont Campus, was this year's recipient of the Rudolph & Dorothy Blythe Research Award. The award supports biomedical research and the gathering of preliminary data to be used in the pursuit of extramural funding.
Students and Faculty Participate in Vermont Legislative Day
Students and faculty from the Vermont Campus attended the annual Pharmacy Legislative Day in Montpelier on January 22. In addition to discussing the pharmacy profession with legislators and other members of the public, students also provided blood pressure screenings at the State House. The ACPHS delegation was recognized during the session by both the Vermont House Representative from Colchester and U.S. Congressman Peter Welch, who was on hand to discuss prescription drug pricing and his role heading a federal committee to combat increasing drug costs. Legislative Day in Albany is scheduled for April 12.
Department of Pharmacy Practice Launches Blog
The Department of Pharmacy Practice has started a blog. Spearheaded by Department Chair Amy Barton Pai, the blog will communicate significant events in the department, highlight faculty achievements, and share information pertinent to clinical pharmacy practice. The first post is a profile of Assistant Professor Nimish Patel, an infectious diseases pharmacist whose research interests include HIV and Hepatitis C. In the piece, you'll learn who has influenced Dr. Patel's career the most, what advice he would give to aspiring pharmacists, and how he nearly abandoned his pharmacy studies after one year to pursue a career as a figure skater!
Application Deadline for Student Research Program is Feb. 16

Students on either campus who are interested in pursuing laboratory, clinical, or other research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor are encouraged to apply. Each award recipient receives $3,000 plus $500 to offset the cost of the research supplies. The 2016 program application is posted on the Office of Grants Administration intranet page along with a list of the 19 faculty members who have offered to serve as mentors for this year's program. The deadline for applications is Feb. 16; please e-mail Laura Salvati with any questions.
