While you bide your time waiting for the Apple Watch to become available, take a minute to read this week's e-Pulse. True, it doesn't keep time within 50 milliseconds of the global standard, but you also don't need to visit the Genius Bar to understand it (let's hope not anyway).

ACPHS-Initiated Resolution Passed at Pharmacy Meeting

The ACPHS student chapter of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA-ASP) had their policy resolution relating to the Labeling and Measuring of Oral Liquid Medications passed by the APhA-ASP House of Delegates at last month's Annual Meeting. The resolution was first proposed at the Midyear Regional Meeting which took place in Albany this past October. Just having a policy reviewed at the Annual Meeting is an impressive accomplishment considering that only four policy proposals were discussed this year by the House of Delegates. The resolution will next be brought to the APhA Board of Trustees for their review. Click the following link to review the full text of the proposed resolution (please note that the language in the final resolution was slightly amended but the intent was not changed).

Professor Pumo Named ACPHS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Dorothy Pumo, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the Vermont Campus, who was named 2014-15 ACPHS Teacher of the Year! The award is a prestigious honor that recognizes a faculty member who goes above and beyond to help her/his students reach their potential and excel - personally and professionally. The Teacher of the Year selection process was jointly overseen by the Student Government Associations on both campuses. It involved reviewing qualitative feedback from more than 300 students plus interviews with each of the Teacher of the Year nominees.

"Giving Day" Donations to Support Student Initiatives

The College is hosting its first-ever "Giving Day" on Thursday, April 30. The goal of the event is to have 200 donors make gifts to the College in a 24 hour period - gifts that will help support programs and opportunities for ACPHS students. You can help by spreading the word using the hashtags #200Reasons or #ACPHSGivingDay on Twitter and other social media sites
channels. Follow the progress on April 30 by visiting Giving Day headquarters located in the Rite Aid Lounge in Albany and Room 310 in Vermont or online at acphs.edu/givingday. Stay tuned for more information!

Dean Dominelli Selected for Business of Health Care Panel

Angela Dominelli, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, will serve as a panelist on the Albany Business Review's "Power Breakfast on Health Care," taking place Friday, April 24 at 7:30 am at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia. The event will explore the business of health care in the Capital Region through the perspectives of some the area's leading companies and institutions. Joining Dr. Dominelli on the panel will be Joseph DeVivo, President & CEO of AngioDynamics; Jessica Crawford, President of MedTech; and Ferdinand Venditti, President of the Albany Med Faculty Physician Group.

Recipients Announced for Summer Research Awards

Eight students have been selected as recipients of Summer Student Research Awards. The annual program provides stipends and summer housing for students interested in pursuing laboratory, clinical, or other research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Congratulations to this year's awardees and mentors: Kelsey Henning (Mentor: Alison Burton-Chase); Michaela Kinnetz (Binshan Shi); Jackson Lu (Meenakshi Malik); Julia Rosenberger (Martha Hass); Tyler Stone (Charles Bergeron); Marci Wood (Michael Biddle); Jenna Yager (Nimish Patel); and Hae ji Yoon (Stefan Balaz).

Fine Print

Time to come clean. The item in the last newsletter about a tunnel system being planned for the College that would be linked by "people movers" was an April Fools Joke. The tunnel system will, in fact, not have people movers.
