Provost's Honors Circle Takes On "Difficult Conversations"

Launched in spring 2014, the Provost's Honors Circle (PHC) is a three-year interdisciplinary experience for honors students in the College's bachelor of science programs. The members of the first PHC class will be working the next three years on projects targeted towards societal problems at the local, national, and global levels. At a recent Friday Forum Seminar Series, the group revealed its overarching theme will be focused on "difficult conversations" in health care with individual areas of focus to include obesity, mental health, and organ shortages. Freshmen B.S. students interested in joining the PHC may download the application from the ACPHS intranet (under the "Students" tab).

P2 Student Tamra Boldt Wins Patient Counseling Competition

Tamra Boldt, a second year student in the Pharm.D. program, was named the winner of the ACPHS Patient Counseling Competition. She will now go on to represent the College at the National Patient Counseling Competition which will be held March 26-29 at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) annual meeting in San Diego. Competitors will be judged on 15 criteria including their ability to: convey complete information to the patient, use language that the patient is likely to understand, and respond in an empathetic manner.

Students and Faculty Advocate

for Pharmacy in Vermont

Twenty ACPHS students and faculty from the Vermont Campus met with state legislators and their staff in Montpelier as part of the annual Pharmacy Legislative Day. Discussions centered around pharmacy legislation being introduced in this session, focusing on bills related to MAC (maximum allowable cost) pricing transparency, PBM (pharmacy benefit manager) regulation, medication synchronization, and medication reconciliation. The members of the group had a total of 33 meetings, including one with Governor Peter Shumlin!

"Action Auction" Raises $2,500 for Albany Area Health Center

The annual APhA-ASP Action Auction held last week raised nearly $5,000. Half of the money raised will be donated to the local Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center, which provides healthcare services without regard to a person's income. The remainder will be used to support APhA-ASP events, programs, and student travel. In case you were wondering, the highest single bid was $320 which gave the winner the ability to select the suite of their choice in Holland/Princeton. Provost John Denio and faculty members Andy Flynn and Mike Raley served as auctioneers.

ACPHS to Host Men's and Women's Basketball Tourneys

The Albert M. White Gymnasium will serve as host for the men's and women's 2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournaments this weekend. The women's championship will follow  at approximately 4 pm.

Fine Print

The New York Times is reporting that Brian Williams was, in fact, never President of the United States. Plans for a holiday in his honor have been suspended indefinitely.
