It's that time of year many of you have been dreading. No, not final exams. It's the last e-Pulse of the semester! We fear that our absence is likely to create a void for many of you, but hopefully the pending summer break will offer some small consolation. Until we read again ...

"Gozzo Student Center" Dedicated in Special Ceremony

The ACPHS Student Center has been renamed "Gozzo Student Center" in honor of ACPHS President James Gozzo and his wife Lorraine. The new name was unveiled during a special ceremony that took place last Thursday in front of a crowd of students, faculty, staff, trustees, and members of the Gozzo family. The inscription on the plaque that will hang in the Student Center Atrium says, in part, "For his leadership and commitment to the community, the college honors Dr. Gozzo and his wife by dedicating the Student Center in their names."

Vermont Campus Community Members Relay for Life

Students, faculty, and staff from the Vermont Campus participated in Relay for Life last Friday night (and Saturday morning), joining teams from the University of Vermont and St. Michael's College. Throughout the course of the night, more than 50 people from the College came out to support the event, with six hardy souls staying for all 12 hours. Students in the Vermont Campus chapter of Colleges Against Cancer set a fundraising goal of $2,000, and not only were they able to reach that total, but they surpassed it by nearly $250!

Student Speakers Named for Commencement Ceremonies

Each year a student from the graduating class is selected by his/her peers to speak at commencement. Dan Corwin has been selected for the honor at this year's Albany Campus graduation, and Kristel Sidlauskas will be the student speaker at the Vermont ceremony. The Albany Campus commencement will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 1:00 pm in the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. The Vermont ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 18 at 1:00 pm at the Champlain Valley Expo. Click here for additional details about commencement.

Cytotechnology and Clinical Laboratory Sciences Students Receive White Coats

Eight (8) members of the M.S. in Cytechnology and Molecular Cytology program, three (3) members of the M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences program, and six (6) members of the B.S. in Clincial Laboratory Sciences program received their white coats at a ceremony held Friday evening in the Student Center. Following the white coat presentation, the CLS students recited the "Pledge to the Profession," and the Cytotechnology students spoke the "Oath of Conduct." As in pharmacy and other health professions, the white coat ceremony symbolizes one's transition from a student to a professional.

A Brief History of ACPHS

A "History Wall" was recently installed in the hallway outside the O'Brien Building boardroom. Beginning with the origins of the College in 1881 and continuing through to the present day, the wall highlights key events in the 130-plus year history of the College. Did you know, for example, more than half of the incoming class in 1945 was made up of ex-WWII servicemen? Want to learn more? Stop by and check it out!
