Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and the holiday has us feeling reflective at the e-Pulse. Before you embraced our newsletter, we were like a boat adrift on the sea. Through your support each week, we have come to feel more like a boat adrift on a medium-sized lake. It's nice to be loved.

Assemblyman John McDonald Talks Pharmacy Advocacy

New York State Assemblyman (and ACPHS alumnus) John T. McDonald III was back on the Albany Campus last week. The current representative of 108th Assembly District and President of Marra's Pharmacy in Cohoes met with students to talk about the upcoming Legislative Day in Albany. He was joined by Tracy Russell of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York as the two discussed the importance of pharmacy advocacy and the current efforts to expand pharmacists' roles as immunizers. Pharmacy Legislative Day in New York is April 8.

Counseling Competition Winner Headed to Orlando

P3 student Pralok Trivedi was named the winner of the 2014 ACPHS Patient Counseling Competition. The competition required students to counsel patients on their prescriptions with increasingly difficult scenarios being presented in each round. Each counseling session was videotaped and then reviewed by a panel of faculty members to determine the winner. Pralok will now go on to represent ACPHS in the national competition taking place at the APhA Annual Meeting in Orlando from March 28-31.

Assoc. Professor Jeffrey Brewer to Appear on "Health Link"

Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice Jeffrey Brewer will be a guest on the local PBS television show "Health Link" this week. The episode examines vitamins and supplements, discussing the latest findings on their effectiveness. Dr. Brewer is joined on the show by a Registered Nutritionist and an Integrative Medicine Doctor. The episode will air on WMHT (Time Warner, Ch. 11) this Thursday, February 13 at 7:30 pm and then again on Sunday, February 16 at 10 am.

Kelsey Johnson Joins ACPHS Basketball's 1,000 Point Club

Senior forward Kelsey Johnson surpassed 1,000-points for her career in the team's recent victory over Davis College. She entered the game with 988 career points, before eventually knocking down a three-pointer early in the second half to reach the mark. The game was briefly interrupted at that point as Head Coach Andrew Pelletier and ACPHS Athletic Director Katie Bishop honored her with the game ball. Kelsey finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds. Click the following link to view the record-setting basket.

There He Is ... Mr. ACPHS!

On Friday night, Colleges Against Cancer, in conjunction with the Student Gov't Association, hosted the second annual "Mr. ACPHS" fundraiser. This year's event featured nine of the College's finest (and bravest) men competing in four areas - swimwear, talent, formal wear, and Q&A. When it was all said and done, John Polnak was selected as this year's winner. The best part is the event raised more than $1,000(!) for Relay for Life. This year's RFL will take place on Friday, February 28 beginning at 6:00 pm in the Student Center.
