David Kile '74 Appointed to New Position on HIXNY Board 

Congratulations to David Kile, ACPHS Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development and Class of 1974 alumnus, who has been appointed to the position of Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Health Information Xchange of New York (HIXNY). HIXNY is a Latham-based health information exchange that serves nearly 1.6 million people in a 17-county area that includes the Capital Region. Kile, who will maintain his current role with the College, has been a member of the organization's Board of Directors for three years. The HIXNY Board is comprised of 16 members who represent a cross-section of the area's healthcare and business leaders.
 
Dan Corwin, Class of 2014, Wins National Scholarship Award 

P4 Student Dan Corwin was named a recipient of an American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Student Scholarship. Dan is just one of 13 students from around the country to be recognized with an APhA scholarship award. Dan received the Colonel Jerry W. Ross Scholarship, which awards those who demonstrate the Air Force core values of excellence, selflessness, integrity, leadership, and academics. He and the other scholarship recipients will be recognized on March 31 during a special event at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando.

Men's and Women's Basketball Teams Knocked Out of HVIAC Conference Play

The ACPHS Men's and Women's basketball teams were eliminated in the semifinals of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Men's team finished the season with an overall record of 9-11 and 4-3 in conference play. The Women's team will continue their season as they have qualified and will defend the USCAA Division II National Championship in Uniondale, PA between March 6-8. Vermont Pharmacists Association Hosts Legislative Day

The student chapter of the Vermont Pharmacists Association (VPA) invited lobbyists Theo Kennedy and Anthony Otis to campus in late January to help prepare for Pharmacy Legislative Day  on February 19. The annual event offers students, faculty, and pharmacists an opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss issues of importance to patients and the profession. Students will also be updating legislators on their community service activities and offering blood pressure screenings for State House workers.
 
Assemblyman John McDonald Talks Pharmacy Advocacy

New York State Assemblyman and Class of 1985 alumnus, John T. McDonald III, was back on the Albany campus in early February. The current representative of 108th Assembly District and President of Marra's Pharmacy in Cohoes met with students to talk about the upcoming Legislative Day in Albany on April 8. He was joined by Tracy Russell of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York as the two discussed the importance of pharmacy advocacy and the current efforts to expand pharmacists' roles as immunizers. 
 
ACPHS Relay For Life Relay for Life Right Around the Corner

The dates are set for the 2014 College's Against Cancer Relay for Life events on both the Albany (February 28) and Vermont (April 25) campuses. For more information on these community fundraising events and how you can support visit Relay for Life - Albany and Relay for Life - Vermont today. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
 
Community Forum on Heroin/Prescription Drug Abuse

Join us on Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. in the ACPHS Student Center for a town hall meeting to discuss heroin and prescription drug abuse.

This event is a great opportunity to learn more about these growing epidemics and issues facing our local communities. Find out how you can get involved to help support the fight against these addictions. This event is open to the public. Phi Delta Chi Fundraiser for St. Jude's

Members of Phi Delta Chi (PDC) Professional Pharmacy Fraternity need your support. The group is raising funds for St. Jude's Research Hospital. By purchasing an ACPHS Pill Counter for $15.00 in support of PDC a portion of the proceeds will benefit St. Jude's.
