How lucky are we? To be able to tell our children about the Sunday in 2014 when Groundhog's Day and the Super Bowl fell on the same day? Wow! And now on the heels of that double dose of awesome, you get to kick off your week with a new e-Pulse. It's a great time to be alive, isn't it?

Team Selected for National Compounding Competition

The team of Maral Gabriel, Alba Caku, and Nicholas Maggi were named the winners of the ACPHS Compounding Competition, beating out eight other teams for the honor. All teams were evaluated on their development of three products plus a theoretical portion (essay). Next stop for the students will be Gainesville, Florida, where they will represent ACPHS in the national competition, taking place March 22-23.

Students Prep for Vermont Legislative Day on Feb. 19

The student chapter of the Vermont Pharmacists Association (VPA) invited lobbyists Theo Kennedy and Anthony Otis to campus last week to help prepare for Pharmacy Legislative Day. The annual event offers students, faculty, and pharmacists an opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss issues of importance to patients and the profession. Students will also be updating legislators on their community service activities and offering blood pressure screenings for State House workers. Pharmacy Legislative Day in Vermont will take place on Wednesday, February 19.

David Kile Appointed to New Position on HIXNY Board

David Kile, ACPHS Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development, has been appointed to the position of Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Health Information Xchange of New York (HIXNY). HIXNY is a Latham-based health information exchange that serves nearly 1.6 million people in a 17-county area that includes the Capital Region. Kile, who will maintain his current role with the College, has been a member of the organization's Board of Directors for three years. The HIXNY Board is comprised of 16 members who represent a cross-section of the area's healthcare and business leaders.

Relay for Life Less Than Four Weeks Away!

For those who may not be aware, the Albany Campus Relay for Life has been moved up this year from its traditional April spot on the calendar to February 28, so as not to interfere with other end-of-year activities (the Vermont Campus's RFL will take place April 25). The theme for this year's event will be Mardi Gras. To register for the event or make a donation, please visit the ACPHS Relay for Life web page.

Women's Basektball Team Ranked #2 in the Country

The 2013-14 ACPHS women's basketball team had a tough act to follow after last year's team won the USCAA national championship. But the Panthers have embraced the challenge by racing to a 15-4 record and a #2 ranking in the country. Alexa Schooley leads the team at 13.8 points/game, followed closely by Kelsey Johnson at 12.2 points/game. The next women's home game will be this Thursday vs. Davis College. Game time is 6:00 p.m.

Fine Print

Using just seven symbols, Roman numerals represented a rather ingenious numeric system that served as the world standard for nearly 1,500 years. So how do you think the ancient Romans would feel now that this system's chief legacy is to help us keep track of Super Bowls? We suppose the fact that they are also used for the annual WrestleMania event would offer little consolation.
