Nobody Gonna Break Their Strides

Large groups of faculty and students from both the Albany and Vermont Campuses turned out for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks held this past weekend in Albany and Burlington. The two campuses combined to raise more than $4,500 to help increase awareness for breast cancer and support the American Cancer Society's research efforts.

Recovering Addict's Talk Highlights Substance Abuse Awareness Week
|
Organized by the Office of Counseling and Wellness and the Initiative for Substance Abuse Prevention, the annual Substance Abuse Awareness Week included a variety of thought provoking activities. But perhaps none were as powerful as the presentation by UAlbany student Charlotte Gorman (pictured here), who discussed her addiction to prescription medications and alcohol and detailed her ongoing recovery efforts.

In My Mind I'm Going to Carolina ... But the Women's Soccer Team is Going for Real!

The ACPHS Women's Soccer team is one of eight teams that has qualified for the USCAA national championship tournament in Asheville, NC. The Panthers are seeded 5th and will play Paul Smith's College in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, November 1 at 11:00 am (apparently the schedule makers didn't know that Asheville is a 13-hour bus ride from Albany).

ACPHS Adds Three New Members to the College's Board of Trustees

The ACPHS Board of Trustees, the governing body of the College, approved the appointments of three new board members at its Oct. 19 meeting. Each of the following trustees was appointed for a three year term: Walter S. Borisenok, CEO, Fortitech, Inc.; Lee S. Shapiro, M.D.; and Scott M. Terrillion '85, Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals.

Taking a Bite of the Apple (iPad)

The Division of Innovative Learning and Academic Support Services recently hosted the College's first iPad users group meeting. Sue Iwanowicz, Director of Library Services, discussed how iPads are being used to help students better navigate the library. Peter Aiello, Vice President of the Student Government Association, demonstrated how SGA is using iPads to better track attendance at events and then taking that information to improve future events.
