Now that it's November, we do request that as soon as travel plans are made for your child/student for the upcoming Winter holidays that you please email us the details to admissions@fulfordacademy.com.  

For all flights, be sure to include the departure city, flight number, terminal and time.  

Our official departure day is December 19th and official arrival day is January 5th. There will be free pick-up and drop off at the airports on those days (Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto). Ottawa is the closest one and most convenient one for our students.

It is the time of the year where we start our application process with our students. Our admissions department has been in touch with most of our families already and also spoke to each student already to start the process.

We kicked off our 2013-2014 school year with a great trip to Ottawa.   Despite the dreary Ottawa weather, 34 students and 4 Residential Advisor's loaded a bus to explore two Ottawa tourist attractions; the Parliament Building and the Aviation Museum.  

On Sunday September 15th, Fulford Academy students took part in a Brockville and Canadian tradition; one that has been alive for 33 years - The Terry Fox Run. This run happens throughout Canada every year to raise money for Cancer research and Fulford Academy is a proud supporter of this event. With our whole school taking part on Sunday, students chose to either run or walk the 5 km in support of raising money towards this important cause.

The event provided Fulford Academy students with the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor activity with the community. Many students donated money for the chance to have their faces painted for the walk/run. Students seemed to enjoy the opportunity of being outside, exercising and spending some time with their friends.

Overall, the event was a success with every Fulford Academy student participating and completing the circuit. The school is happy to have contributed to such an important cause and Canadian tradition. Fulford Academy's participation helped both, raise money for this event as well as brought awareness to our students regarding the purpose of the run.    

On September 22nd, we held our first Olympics competition of the year.  The students are placed into four teams or as we call them houses.  They are Fraser House, Green House, Beatty House and Jones House.  We started off with a tug-of-war contest between the houses.  Jones was able to show their strength and defeat all challengers as they went on to win the first competition of the year.

For our next two sports we had the houses play ultimate Frisbee and ball hockey.  Each sport gave the teams a chance to show some real team work to try and come together and emerge triumphant.  After our fun was done we all got to cool down with some fresh fruit and some nice cold freezees.

The event to raising national flags on its ethnic national day has been practiced for years in the city Brockville. It is originally initiated by Brockville and The District Multicultural Council and approved by local government.

This is a symbolic proof from the city of Brockville that shows recognition of the different cultures as well as respecting the contributions to Brockville by residents who are from different parts of the world.

Oct. 1st 2013, is the 64th anniversary of The People's Republic of China. Leading by the school's owner, Suzan Kendall, students of Fulford Academy paid a visit to Tunnel Bay where the Chinese national flag was raised and some pictures were taken!

As a Chinese-born Canadian, I am so proud of living in this country and enjoying the freedom to retain my own culture and tradition while integrating to Canadian culture and social activities at the same time.

I appreciate so much of what our school has performed.

Thank you Fulford Academy!

On the weekend of October 12 -14, Fulford Academy students, along with the rest of Canada, celebrated Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful autumn weekend, and many students took advantage of the lovely weather and spent time outside.

On Saturday, the students walked from Fulford Academy to a nearby school to take part in a Brockville tradition - the Brockville Bowl.  The Bowl is a football match between two local high school teams.  Fulford had the chance to cheer on three of its own students who play on the Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI) team.  While BCI suffered a loss, it was a great day to sit on the grass and enjoy some Thanksgiving sunshine.

Sunday brought some rain, but that did not stop the students from participating in a Thanksgiving scavenger hunt.  They wandered the school and its grounds looking for pumpkins, leaves, scarecrows, gourds and other autumn related items.

On October 22nd, I took 10 students to the Montreal Allouettes vs. Hamilton Tiger Cats game in Montreal.  Students woke up early to eat breakfast before getting into the van to start our two and half hour drive to downtown Montreal.

This past Thursday, October 31st, we celebrated Halloween.  Many cultures have similar festivals and customs to our version of Halloween.  .  In Canada, Halloween basically means two things, one, people dress up in funny or scary costumes and two, people, especially children, go to neighbours' houses where they are given candy  (this is called Trick or Treating).  At Fulford, students were given the opportunity to try Trick or Treating, one of the favourite activities of Canadian students.

Fulford Academy also hosted a haunted house for children within our community.  We set up several different activities and games that the children were able to play and try before getting some delicious candy.  It offered the Fulford students a great chance to interact with the public while getting a taste of some true Canadian culture.  Everyone had a great time having fun dressing up while getting to eat lots of candy.

First off, I would like to say how thankful I was to be able to go on the trip to China with Fulford Academy to represent Canadian Students. I love to travel and learn about different cultures, which I was able to go on this trip along with Dr. Steel and his wife Beth, Doug Kendall and fellow students Aaron Brecht, Andrew Kravchenko and Hannah Zhao where we would meet up with Mrs. Kendall who was already in China. While in China we were privileged to be able to visit area schools, like Greentown and Yuyao.

While at the schools, we celebrated their 20th anniversary and the 10th annual International Festival. We joined some of their classes and participated in different activities around the schools. Activities   included a Chinese market put on by students, and a "snack street" where we were able to try different traditional Chinese foods. At the schools, Hannah, Aaron and I were able to attend a Model U.N. Seminar; it was very enlightening on different issues around the world.

 We had such an awesome visit to the schools. On our second half of the trip we were able to tour many extraordinary places around Beijing such as the Great Wall of China, the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City just to name a few. It is that time of year again when the male staff and students at Fulford Academy are sporting a little more facial hair than usual. "Movember" is an annual month-long event in November which involves growing mustaches to raise awareness of men's health issues.

Like last year, we have set up an in-house "Movember" fundraising plan to make a donation at the end of the month that goes to charities about men's health issues. To keep "Movember" fun for staff and students, we have created incentives for each dollar amount they raise. Just to name a few of the incentives, if the students reach over $100.00 they each get a chocolate bar and if they raise $600.00, staff members get pied in the face by some of the students.
