About Matthew Nelson, LCSO Children's Chorus Director: In his seventh season as director of the LCSO Children's Chorus Matt Nelson couldn't be more proud to have been involved in the Chorus' inception and still be leading a growing program that instills appreciation for all styles of music. Prior to joining the staff at the LCSO, Matt served as Director of Music Ministries and Education at St. John's Lutheran Church and School in La Porte. He has also served as choir director for First Christian Church of La Porte. Matt's study and love of music was fostered by his parents at young age. He carried that on through his education by studying Music Education and Piano Performance at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He pursued further studies at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana through their Church Music and Liturgy program. Currently, Matt is Director of the Agape Christian Church Choir and serves there as a Worship Leader and Church Deacon. He is also director of the new ReVive Chorus La Porte, a choral program for Middle and High School students looking to share their musical voices outside of the local schools' programs. Matt also is lighting designer for the LCSO's concerts held at the Civic Auditorium. Matt resides in La Porte with his wife and three children.
