A Blast of Virtuous Stuff.

Greetings!

We've all heard the cliché, "Patience is a virtue".

According to Wikipedia, "A cliché is an expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has become overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, even to the point of being trite or irritating, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel."

Just because a phrase is overused doesn't mean that it's no longer useful. In today's age of immediate gratification, our kids need to know that patience is a necessary virtue, especially if they want to accomplish anything of importance, like getting good grades, making the varsity team, or, as in our featured "V" Video, master a musical instrument.

A city girl learns patience with the help of her violin (and her dad).
Of course, kids aren't the only ones who need to practice patience. A couple of weeks ago I got stuck in traffic for over 3 hours due to an accident on the interstate. As I sat in the car, on the verge of blowing a gasket, I had to remind myself that patience is enduring a delay or bad situation without complaining.
Back in May of 2013 our attorney submitted The "V" Channel's nonprofit application to the IRS. Fifteen months later we still hadn't received a response. I was climbing the walls! Once again, I had to remind myself that patience is accepting things I cannot control. For example, even if I feel impatient, I do my best to act calm while waiting for someone who is late. I'm happy to say we recently received a letter from the IRS recognizing The "V" Channel as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Let's acknowledge the inherent goodness in our children, and help them understand virtues like patience. Let's lead by example by practicing patience every day, because, to quote another famous cliché, "Actions speak louder than words."

Wishing you and all of our children, "Victory via Virtues!"
