Lutheran Elementary School Association Celebrating 10 Years as a Partner in Quality Lutheran Education

August,  2014
Greetings!

For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
    my confidence since my youth.
 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother's womb.
I will ever praise you.  Psalm 71:5-6
Back to School

Summer is nearly over and it is time to think about getting your child ready for the new school year.  The next few months are filled with opportunities for growth. I feel blessed to share with you that LESA's Building Blocks program has awarded, to date, $373,750 in tuition assistance to 610 students for the 2014/2015 school year from its general funds, giving these students an opportunity to learn and grow in our member schools in the Word of the Lord! There is great joy in knowing that through our resources and programs, we are helping to raise faithful disciples and future leaders for tomorrow.

I ask for your prayers to continue to bless the ministries of all of our Lutheran educational ministries and for LESA as a partner in providing quality Lutheran education in our community.

Praise be the Lord!!
Developing Student Leaders

They grow up so fast, don't they? "My seven-year-old taught me how to download music." "My fifth grader wants a tattoo." But how about this perspective? "My college grad wants me to call his boss." "My 30-year old won't move out of the house." The pervasive lamenting about how kids today seem older at an earlier age is being counteracted with the fact that they don't seem to want (or aren't able) to grow up. Adolescence is expanding in both directions-starting earlier and ending later.

Dr. Tim Elmore, a nationally recognized author, speaker and parenting expert, will visit Immanuel Lutheran School in Washington, Missouri, Sept. 18-19, 2014, to talk to parents and educators about helping children become "authentic leaders."

Dr. Elmore will speak primarily to parents, Thursday evening, September 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., on the topic of "Artificial Maturity," and primarily to teachers and educators, Friday, September 19th, from 9 a.m.-noon, on "Growing Student Leaders."  The presentations, which are free and open to the public, will take place at Immanuel Lutheran School, 214 West 5th Street, Washington, MO 63090.  Registration links for both free events can be found at www.lesastl.orgIf you have any questions feel free to contact Alan Wunderlich or Nick Hopfensperger of Immanuel Lutheran at 636-239-1636 or Laura Montgomery at the LESA office at 314-268-1522. LESA Launches New Health Curriculum

Taking care of our bodies, minds, and souls is a life-long process which honors God. The goal of Lutheran health education is to help running-backpack-children.jpgstudents develop their physical, spiritual, emotional, and social well-being so that they can increase awareness of themselves and appreciate their bodies as gifts from God. Today's state of the art health education curricula reflect the growing body of research that emphasizes the following:
●Teaching functional health information (essential knowledge).
●Shaping personal values and beliefs that support healthy behaviors.
●Shaping group norms that value a healthy lifestyle.
●Developing the essential health skills necessary to adopt, practice, and maintain health-enhancing behaviors which give honor to God.

After one year in the making, LESA's new health curriculum is available online at http://www.lesastl.org/curriculum.html.

The Lutheran Elementary School Association is a distinctively Lutheran, Christ-centered resource for those who teach and those who learn in Lutheran elementary schools in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
