Greetings!

I really enjoy the NCAA Basketball Championships. I don't know who will win but I'm pulling for the Louisville Cardinals since I spent a lot my childhood in Kentucky.

Like a basketball coach, we as business owners need to keep everyone committed to success and making sure we have a game plan that leads to a win.

Wishing you a very successful April.

Warmest regards,

Donovan
5 Reasons Email Marketing is More Relevant Than Ever
I was talking to a business colleague of mine who is in the high end residential real estate business about his marketing. He creates beautiful brochures for the million dollar plus homes he sells. I asked him what else he did for marketing. He said that he used to spend a lot of time and resources doing online marketing especially with social media and was disappointed with the results. The only online marketing that seemed to work for him was e-mail marketing. While I didn't explore why his social media marketing didn't work, I do find many businesses have a lot of success with e-mail marketing just like my colleague. One of the most common problems I see with small businesses is they have all their eggs in one basket. They have one form of revenue. Usually that means one type of product or service.
Then there's some change or disruption in the market and it overturns their apple cart. Their failure to diversify kills them.

Getting Better at Getting Email
by MaryAnn Bekkedahl

Do you ever wonder how we functioned before email? At work, at home, or on the go, a vast majority of us can't go 30 minutes without sending, receiving or reviewing our emails (I'm guilty of checking through the night, too). For many highly connected people, the allure of opening up an inbox isn't just a necessity, it's becoming an addiction.

That's why I can't stress enough the importance of "getting better at email." It's in everyone's best interest - senders and recipients; brands and consumers - to deliver an email that the intended person wants to read. Otherwise, you're just wasting time and ticking people off (which, for brands, means potentially losing customers).

Small Business Marketing: LinkedIn, Twitter Growing in Effectiveness
by Lenna Garibian

Despite much debate over the value of social networks to small business marketing, growing numbers of small business owners view social media as an effective tool, according to a survey from Constant Contact.

Surveyed small businesses report the biggest surge in the effectiveness of LinkedIn and Twitter, among the major social networks.

Overall, 8 in 10 (80%) small business owners say they conduct social media marketing, and among those who do...
