All of the activities will take place at Fire Station #4, located at 850 Paseo Ranchero in the Rancho del Rey neighborhood just north of East H Street.
Participants include Chula Vista Firefighters, Fire Prevention personnel, and Fire Explorers. In addition, the event will include free blood pressure checks by A.M.R Ambulance Service and information booths from the Burn Institute, San Diego County Haz-Mat Unit, Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the Citizens Adversity Support Team (CAST), as well as free rides on the "Little Fire Truck." The Chula Vista Fire Department currently has nine stations located in all of the city's major regions. Each year the department responds to more than 15,000 calls, ranging from medical aids to working fires. One of the resources to the fire prevention division is Cali, an accelerant detection canine.

And They Lived Happily Ever After!
Two years ago, Chris and Blanca were devastated when their beloved cat, Felix, went missing. They searched and searched to no avail and just last month decided it was time to adopt another cat. That's when they came to the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility (CVACF) to find a new furry family member. While looking at the selection of cats at the facility, one cat in particular, named Tony, caught their attention when he flopped over in front of them immediately. Much to their surprise and delight, Chris and Blanca realized this Tony looked exactly like their Felix. That's when Chris pulled out his cell phone with a photo of Felix and compared markings - they were an exact match! To top it off, when Chris said "Felix," Tony turned his head towards him! We may never know what happened during those two years Felix was missing as he was only at our shelter for a few months. But the good news is he is so happy to be reunited with his family who, of course, adopted him again!
What can you do to avoid the heartache of a missing pet? For starters, make sure your pet is micro-chipped. The CVACF, located at 130 Beyer Way, offers microchip service Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $30 and appointments are not necessary. Also, if your pet does go missing, please check out the shelter's webpage where we post photos of found pets. If you're looking for a new pet, we have many ready for adoption! Take advantage of the "No Trick but a Treat" special adoption fee for October of $25; normally $75. Call (619) 691-5123 for more information or stop by Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and find your treat this Halloween! Maybe one with nine lives...like Felix!
