RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS
Most of you may remember the Carpenter's song which said, "Rainy days and Mondays always bring me down." We are happy to report that we are not down, but up...and ready for the El Niņo rains! Your City has been preparing for months for the predicted rains and their effects. Hopefully you have heeded our advice and prepared yourself as well. To answer any questions you may have, and to offer additional suggestions, the City is hosting an El Niņo community forum on Monday, January 11. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers, 276 Fourth Avenue, at 6 p.m. and will have speakers from our Fire, Police and Public Works Departments as well as a guest speaker from the National Weather Service. Can't attend the meeting on January 11? It will be aired live on the City's website, similar to a City Council meeting, CLICK HERE, and also on Cox Cable Channel 24 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. The forum will also be posted to the website the following day by 10 a.m.
Chula Vista residents can receive up to 10 sandbags by visiting the John L. Lippitt Public Works Center at 1800 Maxwell Road (off Main Street). The sandbag distribution area is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, effective February 1, 2016, four City Fire Stations will be sandbag distribution centers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily: Station 1, 447 F Street; Station 4, 850 Paseo Ranchero; Station 5, 391 Oxford Street, and Station 7, 1640 Santa Venetia. Proof of residency, like a current utility bill, is required at all distribution centers.
Also, the California State Department of Insurance reminds homeowners that flood damage is not covered by traditional homeowners insurance. Flood insurance is only available through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and there is a 30 day waiting period before the policy is effective. Californians living in areas with any risk of flooding are advised to purchase Flood Insurance immediately through the NFIP. CLICK HERE to learn more.

MUSEUM MOVES TO LIBRARY
The Chula Vista's Heritage Museum is being relocated from downtown Third Avenue to the Civic Center Library, 365 F Street, and you are invited to the grand opening! A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 27, at 5:05 p.m. Why that date and time, you ask? Because January 27, 1916, at exactly 5:05 p.m., following an unprecedented amount of rain, the Otay Dam burst sending a massive wall of water all the way to the coast. The disastrous Otay flood was the worst natural disaster in the history of the South Bay.
On exhibit for the inauguration of the Heritage Museum relocation will be photos and artifacts commemorating the centennial of the disaster. More than 100 historical photos collected by the South Bay Historical Society will be on exhibit. Refreshments will be served and the Friends of the Library will hold their annual meeting as well.
