WATER WISE WAYS
The worse drought in California history has brought about some ingenious ways to reuse and recycle our precious water. For instance, at the San Diego International Airport, condensation from air conditioning units is being collected and reused to power wash runways and other airport property. And in Chula Vista, our Parks Division is taking advantage of a new bridge installation project at Willow Street. The contractor on the project must move a pipe in order to build the bridge, and in doing so, they need to discharge the water. Parks is wisely capturing the water via a water truck prior to it reaching the sewer lines and using it to benefit Rancho Del Rey Pak, Independence Park and SDG&E easements.
Want to know how you can be productive in your water usage? Here are some tips from Otay Water and Sweetwater Authority water districts:
* Use a broom to clean outdoor areas. This saves 8-18 gallons per minute. * Adjust your sprinklers to water plants, not the sidewalk. This saves 12-15 gallons each time you water. * Set your mower to 3". It will encourage deeper roots which saves 16-50 gallons per day. * Cover bare dirt with mulch. This saves 20-30 gallons per 1,000 sq. ft. and keeps pesky weeds in check.
Take advantage of a free residential or commercial water survey to help you reduce water use, both indoors and outdoors. In addition to saving water, it could also lower your water bill. To schedule an appointment, please CLICK HERE.
Thank you for your support of water conservation. Each individual effort adds up and helps to protect our water supply as California's record-breaking drought continues. For more information, contact your local water district: Otay Water, CLICK HERE, or call Water Conservation (619) 670-2730 or Sweetwater Authority, CLICK HERE, or call Water Efficiency Line at (619) 409-6779.

DISTRICTING MAPS DRAWN
One, two, three or four; which district hosts your front door? The Chula Vista Districting Commission has approved its Recommended Districting Plan which will affect City councilmember elections starting with Districts 3 and 4 in 2016. Each district consists of approximately 60,000 residents. To view the Recommended Districting Plan, CLICK HERE. After more than three months of public outreach and input, the Recommended Plan will be presented to the City Council for final approval on July 14. Effective 2016, one candidate from each district will be elected to represent that district on the City Council. For instance, the Councilmember serving District 4 will reside in District 4 and will be elected only by voters who reside in District 4. The Mayor and City Attorney will continue to be elected at-large by all voters in the City.
