CAST VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
If you have ever thought about serving your community as a volunteer, consider joining the City of Chula Vista CAST program. Chula Vista's CAST - Citizen's Adversity Support Team - consists of volunteers trained to provide families of trauma victims with compassionate, supportive assistance.
Volunteers, on call 24 hours a day, every day of the year, are trained by professionals including police officers, firefighters, psychologists, and emergency room staff. First responders summon CAST to a variety of emergency calls - serious motor vehicle accidents, murders, domestic violence, shootings and fires. Since 1993, CAST members have responded to thousands of calls in the communities of Chula Vista, Bonita, and Imperial Beach.
The next training session begins in January and runs through mid-April 2014. For more information, or to request an application, please contact Dr. Emerald Randolph at (619) 691-5213 or EMAIL. |
MILLENIA BREAKS GROUND
Thanks to McMillin Communities, Chula Vista will soon have a new master planned community that will feature 80 city blocks, retail and office space, public parks, and thousands of homes. The exciting new development, Millenia, will be built at the southeast corner of Birch Road and SR 125, just south of the Otay Ranch Town Center.
The 207-acre project is part of the Otay Ranch Master Plan and will have approximately 3,000 contemporary styled lofts, apartments, and condos as well as roughly 3.5 million square feet of office, retail and civic services. Millenia also includes plans for a new elementary school, library, six parks and miles of trails. The first condos and apartments will be move-in ready in late 2014. Stay tuned for Millenia updates throughout the year. |

SHARE YOUR IDEAS FOR BRT DESIGN
The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) will host a design workshop on Tuesday, October 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Veterans Elementary School, located at 1550 Magdalena Avenue in Chula Vista. The workshop will focus on design options for the South Bay Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project's approved single-lane transit guideway between Magdalena Avenue and State Route 125 in Otay Ranch.
Options include constructing a solid structure or a guideway supported by columns. During the first workshop, participants will be provided information on the options and asked to express their concerns and preferences. The feedback gathered at the first workshop will be used by SANDAG to help select the design of the guideway. The final design will be announced at the second workshop, where participants will be asked to weigh in on additional design elements such as landscaping. The second workshop also will be held at Veterans Elementary School on October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Construction of the South Bay BRT is scheduled to begin at the end of 2014. Service is expected to begin by late 2015. Once completed, the South Bay BRT will serve as a critical element of a broader regional BRT system, providing frequent, rapid, and reliable service along a 21-mile route from the Otay Mesa Port of Entry to Downtown San Diego via eastern Chula Vista.
