NATIONAL CHAMPS RECEIVE HEROES' WELCOME AT CELEBRATION
Once again a little league baseball team from Chula Vista has put our city in the national spotlight. The Eastlake Little League All-Stars, who won the Little League World Series U.S. Championship on August 24, were welcomed home with a grand celebration at Sleep Train Amphitheatre just five days later. Thousands of cheering fans and supporters attended the free event to greet the team, manager and coaches.
Special guests included San Diego Padre and National Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, Padres Pitcher Casey Kelly, radio personalities from 93.3 and Mighty 1090. Eastlake High School cheerleaders, DJ C-Riz, the Pad Squad and Swingin' Friar entertained the crowd. An added bonus to the event was an appearance by the Tijuana Little League team who won third place in the Little League World Series and joined Eastlake briefly on the stage.
The Eastlake Little League team garnered support from the entire County as they advanced to the championship games. In 2009, Parkview Little League, also from Chula Vista, received international attention as they won the Little League World Series.
To all young ball players: never give up, reach for your dreams, and know that your Chula Vista community supports you.

SEE, CLICK, FIX!
As you're driving through your neighborhood, you spot an ugly pothole. Wouldn't you love to be able to report it as soon as you see it? Now, in the City of Chula Vista, you can do just that! The new feature, called SeeClickFix, allows residents to submit requests for non-emergency service via mobile application and web tool. Issues can be reported using a widget on the City website ( CLICK HERE), or with a free phone app (for iPhone and Android devices, search for SeeClickFix on Google Play Store or iTunes).
Just a few examples of issues that can be reported using SeeClickFix include graffiti, pothole, dead animal, malfunctioning traffic signal, and abandoned vehicle. Requests reported through SeeClickFix can provide location, description and photographic information regarding the problem. The new service is available in different languages and requests can be submitted anonymously. Residents also can report issues to Public Works at (619) 379-6000 and these issues will be added to the SeeClickFix database.
SeeClickFix allows citizens to report non-emergency issues, and then monitor them as well. Once the issue is documented with SeeClickFix, the reporting citizen will receive a notification and tracking number. The request is then automatically forwarded to the appropriate department. Once the issue is addressed, the status will be updated and posted on SeeClickFix. City staff will monitor SeeClickFix during normal business hours.
The new system eliminates the same request being submitted multiple times and allows staff to work more efficiently by filtering requests regarding type, status or department assigned. SeeClickFix is strictly for non-emergency services and any emergency should still be reported to 911. |
WALK, RIDE & ROLL TO SCHOOL
The Chula Vista Elementary School District, Sweetwater Union High School District and the City of Chula Vista Recreation Department are excited to participate as a pilot program for integrating year-round school schedules with SchoolPool activities and the Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge. Chula Vista schools have the chance to win $500, $750, or even $1,000 when students participate in the Walk, Ride, and Roll to School event. This campaign aims to increase the number of children carpooling, walking, biking, and taking public transit to school; to raise awareness of the benefits of more active forms of transportation; and to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety.
SchoolPool CLICK HERE offers a free, secure ride-matching service for parents at the same school. When an administrator enrolls their school, parents can search for other families who are interested in sharing the driving responsibilities or would like to have their kids bike or walk to school with other students and a parent leader.
Schools could win a cash prize for school supplies when students participate in the week long Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge scheduled October 14-18. The schools with the largest percentage of parents logging their children's carpool, transit, walk, and/or bike to school trips in the online iCommute system win! Parents also are eligible to win prizes for logging their children's trips throughout the school year.
And if you are attending Harborfest on Saturday, September 21, be sure to stop by the iCommute booth where you can learn more about the SchoolPool program and sign up to participate in the Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Chula Vista Challenge. You also can CLICK HERE or call 511 and say "SchoolPool." |
