RoboPRIDE, the Queen of Peace Robotics Club, Gears Up for Competition

Come out and support RoboPRIDE on Friday, April 4th or Saturday, April 5th from 9-6pm at the UIC Pavilion while the girls compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition!

The RoboPride club members have completed building this year's robot, Etabot, for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. The team had until February 18th (their Stop Build Day) to design, build and program the robot to perform specific tasks based on this year's rules. At midnight they were required to stop working and "bag and tag" their robot.

This year's game is called Aerial Assist. This competition is different than previous years because for the first time, points are based on teamwork versus individual scores. This year's competition is played by two competing Alliances of three Robots each on a flat 25' x 54' foot field, straddled by a lighting truss suspended just over five feet above the floor. The objective is to score as many balls in goals as possible during a 2 minute and 30 second match. The points increase the more the ball is passed to Alliance members. The more Alliances score their ball in their goals, the more points their alliance receives.

Track & Field Coach at Queen of Peace Expects Higher Standards

Many of the faculty and staff at Queen of Peace wear multiple faces around the school. The Frosh/Soph counselor, Ashley Dick, is no exception.

In addition to being the Frosh/Soph counselor she is also the cross country coach as well as the track and field coach.

"The cross country season went well in the fall and if it's any indication of what is to come with the track and field team then we will have a great season," said Ashley.

Ashley's goals are to establish a good team culture, one where the team performs better together. She wants to ...CLICK HERE

Soccer

With almost 40 players, the soccer program has strong JV and Varsity level teams this year. The varsity team opens the season with the Reavis Tournament on March 18 while JV opens their season with the St. Joseph Tournament on March 22.

Softball

The Varsity Softball Team is practicing, (inside unfortunately!), but hopeful for spring to eventually show so they can begin competition on March 22 at Richards HS. Eighteen athletes make up the Varsity squad this year.

Easter Prayer
There is a lovely blessing of Easter food used traditionally in Poland. For the family blessing food for the first time, it is brief and beautiful. Father F.X. Weiser, S.J., in The Easter Book, gives the following translation.

O Lord, who hast blessed five loaves in the desert, Graciously give us bread for life's needs. Almighty God, let not Thy gifts lead us to sin. Let not the goblet of sparkling wine induce us to misdeeds. While we enjoy our feast, let us also in charity remember All those who suffer want and hunger. May not the pleasure of the body stifle the inspirations Of Thy Holy Spirit, O Lord.
