Jeanerette Museum Presents "Italians In Louisiana" History Talk
JEANERETTE, La. --- Alan Gauthreaux, author and history instructor, will give audience members a look into the Italian immigrant experience in Louisiana as he speaks on his book, "Italian Louisiana: History, Heritage and Tradition," at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2016 at the Jeanerette Museum located at 500 E. Main St.

Gauthreaux will discuss the Italian contribution to Louisiana's culture. Preceding the talk will be a brief presentation on the Italians of Jeanerette who operated business establishments during the early 1900s. A book signing will follow Gauthreaux's talk.

Alan G. Gauthreaux's "Dark Bayou: Infamous Louisiana Homicides," is his most recent release in November 2015, and has steadily been praised for making history come alive while exploring man's dark imagination. Gauthreaux's other work, "Italian Louisiana: History, Heritage, and Tradition," has been well-received not only locally, but in many markets across the United States and recommended by the Order of the Sons of Italy in America in January 2015.

Gauthreaux's masters thesis was included in an anthology entitled, "Louisiana Legacies: Readings in the History of the Pelican State."  Gauthreaux holds bachelors and masters degrees in History from the University of New Orleans and worked as the National Outreach Coordinator for the National World War II Museum in New Orleans from 2007-2009.

Gauthreaux is sought after in Louisiana and surrounding areas to make historical presentations on a variety of topics in Louisiana and American history. He currently works as an adjunct instructor of history at Nunez Community College and Southern University at Shreveport (College Connect at SUNO). His previous works on military and crime history may be found in America's Civil War magazine, Civil War Illustrated and Globe Communications.

This free program is suitable for an adult audience. Seating may be limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis. For more information visit JeaneretteMuseum.com, email [email protected], like the museum on Facebook or call 337-276-4408 Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
