JEANERETTE, La. -- The Jeanerette Bicentennial Museum will celebrate its 40th anniversary during a special event at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the museum located at 500 E. Main St. in Jeanerette.
The museum originally opened on July 4, 1976 during the bicentennial celebration of the United States. Founding members were Ronald LeMaire, Dr. Kennel Brown, Luna Hebert, Hazel Guillotte, Florence Rideaux, Teletha Duchane, Irene Bienvenu, Alice Jenkins, Anna Joyce Breaux, Rosemary Patout, Walter Ragan and Mayor Arthur Lee Verret.
The museum was formed through the support of the entire community since its early beginnings.
"The museum has grown significantly since it first opened for public tours," said Gail Garcia, chairman of the Jeanerette Museum Board of Directors. "Because of the dedication of its founding members and the support of the community we have a wonderful museum that is treasured by all. Visitors from all over the world have noticed just how special our community and those around us are after a visit to the museum."
The anniversary celebration will feature music by the "5 O'Clock Shadows" band and more. This family friendly event is open to the public free of charge. No pets or ice chests please.
