WHAT: Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, the Louisiana Office of Tourism and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development are unveiling new road signs marking the Bayou Teche Byway.
Following the banks of Bayou Teche, the 183 mile route meanders through the parishes of St. Martin, Iberia and St Mary. Along the Bayou Teche Byway visitors can stand under the legendary Evangeline Oak, sample the products of the pepper fields of Avery Island or climb aboard an authentic offshore drilling rig. From ancient legends to modern industry, the Bayou Teche Byway takes visitors on a journey filled with the taste, sounds and places that have come to define this special part of our state.
"A trip down the Bayou Teche Byway is a living history lesson about the people and cultures of Louisiana," Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser said. "It's just one of the ways we can share our special heritage with visitors."
