NEW IBERIA, La. --- The Jeanerette Museum will present the history talk, Evangeline League & the Jeanerette Blues at 6 p.m. on Wed., March 9, 2016. Paul Leslie, Ph.D. of Nicholls State University will lead the discussion on the history of the Evangeline League baseball teams in rural Louisiana from the 1930s to 1950s.
Leslie serves as an adjunct instructor of History at Nicholls State University. During his career he has served as assistant professor to the professor of American History, executive director of Laurel Valley Village and as commissioner of the Evangeline Baseball League History Project.
His publications are numerous and include, "The Evangeline League's Man in the Blue Serge Suit: Trails and Tribulations;" "Say it Ain't So: The 1946 Houma Indians and the Baseball Scandals;" "1940 Houma Buccaneers: The Team of Dreams;" and "Hal Newhouser: Evangeline League Hall of Famer."
Leslie holds a Ph.D. in History, a M.A. in Political Science and a B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
His presentation touching on the history of the Evangeline League and the Jeanerette Blues team is being held free of charge. It is suitable for an adult audience. Seating may be limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis.
