Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air  Call For Authors
NEW IBERIA, La. --- Calling all artists! Join Shadows-on-the-Teche March 12-19, 2016 for the second annual Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air in honor of William Weeks Hall, artist, and last private owner of The Shadows. This event is a juried competition with nationally celebrated plein air artist Roger Dale Brown serving as judge.

To participate in the competition, interested artists must submit three samples of their paintings by Jan. 15.

The artists selected to participate will be required to complete two paintings between the March 12 and March 17. They will be encouraged to set up their easels not only at the Shadows but along New Iberia's historic Main Street, at Avery Island, and other locations in Acadiana.

The Shadows will host a Paint Out on Friday, March 18, which will be open to interested artists of all ages. Works produced at the Paint Out will be exhibited at the Shadows Visitor Center.

The phrase "plein air" describes art created in the open air, a process much different from producing canvases in the studio. Artists must deal with shifting angles and tones of light as well as adverse weather conditions.

Funds raised from this event will allow Shadows to offer annual art classes in memory of Weeks Hall.

Application and details can be found at ShadowsOnTheTeche.org or by contacting Pat Kahle at the Shadows Visitor Center, 320 East Main Street, (337) 369-6446 or [email protected]
