Visitez la paroisse d'Ibrie pour Grand Rveil Acadien, cher! |
IBERIA PARISH, La.--- Iberia Parish will celebrate Grand Rveil Iberia Oct. 3-10, 2015 as part of Grand Rveil Acadien Week (Great Acadian Awakening), an event which brings together Acadians and Cajuns from around the world and highlights the importance of the French language for the survival of our culture.
Grand Rveil, a nine-day festival from October 3-12 in South Louisiana, features family reunions, Cajun and folk concerts, genealogy lectures, crafts seminars, traditional Acadian parades called Tintamarres, and commemoration ceremonies marking the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana.
During Grand Rveil Week, the Iberia Parish Welcome Center will have artisans, musicians, art exhibits, GRA events information and coupons for GRA specials offered by local merchants. Deals and coupons are available for download on IberiaTravel.com. (Merchants should send their promotion with a photo to [email protected] by Sept. 21 to be considered for this free shopping campaign).
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the Jeanerette Museum will hold a Cajun History Talk featuring a screening of "Louisiana Story" with a special presentation by Tika Laudun, senior producer of Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, Loreauville will join the festivities with a presentation on Acadian History and the New Acadia Project, French students performance and unveiling of plans for a park, museum and Acadian Odyssey Monument. A Tintamarre (traditional Acadian parade) to City Hall on Main Street will follow. There will also be music and gumbo.
Still on Thursday, the Iberia Parish Welcome Center will offer activities, including a photo scavenger hunt, trivia contest, giveaways, artisans and much more for its Iberia Parish Day open house.
Finally, on Saturday, Oct. 10, the Jeanerette Museum, usually closed Saturdays, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. That weekend, the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff will fill Main Street New Iberia with live music and the aroma of Cajun food (Saturday) and gumbo (Sunday).
