Trash Bash and Boogie
Take 2 is May 9
NEW IBERIA, La. --- The Spring Trash Bash and Boogie - Take 2, a bayou cleanup effort by the TECHE Project, is rescheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2015 starting at 9 a.m. in New Iberia City Park.

This effort is in preparation for Tour du Teche's May 16 first Chitimacha Race, which will run 20 miles from New Iberia's City Park to the public boat ramp in the Chitimacha Nation near Charenton. (For more information visit TourDuTeche.com)

TECHE Project needs volunteers to get the bayou looking its best for the visitors coming from all over the country to explore the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail, the newly designated National Water Trail by the U.S. Department of Interior through the National Park Service.

"I have lived on Bayou Teche all of my life and I wanted to give something back to this unique waterway and my community," said TECHE Project Bayou Operations Coordinator Dane Thibodeaux. "The Trash Bash and Boogie is a great opportunity for those of us who love the Teche to come out and show our gratitude for the beauty that this bayou provides."

Bayou Teche Experience will provide boats and life vests to volunteers. Bringing your own boat, motorized or non-motorized, is also welcome. Don't feel like getting on the water? Come out and get your gear to have a successful clean up around our beautiful city.

The first 50 volunteers will receive a Trash Bash and Boogie t-shirt. Cleanup volunteers will receive a complimentary Jambalaya lunch and drinks of choice (water/beer/soda). Bayou Teche Brewery will be on hand to showcase some of their craft LA 31 brews after the cleanup.

Trash Bash and Boogie is a Project Front Yard initiative. "The Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring Project Front Yard to Iberia Parish," said Shelley Duran, the chamber's marketing and public relations manager. "We hope involving the community to change our appearance will bring economic growth and a better quality of life for our business community and residents."

TECHE Project is a non-profit group working to raise awareness of the environmental, cultural, historical, and recreational values of Bayou Teche. You can show your support by becoming a member at TECHEProject.org.

This event is sponsored in part by TECHE Project, Metal Shark Aluminum Boats, Bayou Teche Experience, Bayou Teche Brewery, Whole Foods Market, Pro-Drive Outboards, and Gator Graphics.

To contribute to Trash Bash and Boogie or to report litter or invasive species on your area of Bayou Teche please contact Dane Thibodeaux, TECHE project bayou operations coordinator, [email protected] or (337) 323-9228.
