This classic romantic comedy, directed by Dianne Moss, is a story about family, survival, faith and hope. It is set against the backdrop of the paralyzing drought which ravaged the mid-west during the dust bowl. The daughter of the family, Lizzie, has hopes and dreams that have begun to run as dry as the barren fields surrounding her home. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, appears a picturesque, smooth-talking character claiming the ability to make rain. Lizzie must decide: is he a con man, or does he hold the key to everything she desires?
"The Rainmaker" stars Mike Parich, as father of the family. His two sons are played by Andrew Mills and Andrew Palmintier. The one female in the cast is Jennifer Young, who plays Lizzie Curry, the strong, hopeful daughter whose father and brothers try desperately to marry off. Playing Bill Starbuck, the "rainmaker," is J. Larry Blount. Rounding out the cast are two IPAL veterans Perry Ledet and Michael Durand, playing the sheriff and his deputy.
This performance is supported, in part, by a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council, through the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts and administered through the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
