JEANERETTE, La. --- When U.S. Army Veteran Louis Lancon and his wife Patty first retired to his hometown of Jeanerette, they imagined a simple and quiet retirement. Never would they have imagined that they would lead a lifestyle of community activism and entrepreneurship.
The Lancon's latest venture, Bayou Bath Company whose grand opening is March 28, started as a pipe dream for Patty. After several hard years fighting health issues, Patty decided to reclaim her life and started making bath products on her sun porch. At first it was just a distraction for the mother of five.
"I needed an outlet for my creativity - something I could do just for me," Patty said.
In October 2014, the couple finished getting Sugar City Growers (a cooperative hydroponic greenhouse) on its feet and decided to turn their attention to Patty's successful hobby.
Louis and Patty went all in and decided to open up a gift shop in Jeanerette. Bayou Bath Company opened its doors for a sneak preview on January 31 and will be putting the finishing touches on the store in preparation for a March 28 grand opening.
Bayou Bath Company is more than just a business venture for the couple. They hope that bringing business to Jeanerette's Main Street will help in the efforts to revive the small town.
What started as merely a therapeutic hobby for Patty Lancon has flourished into a dream - a dream for the couple, a dream for their family of seven and a dream for a community they care about.
Patty summed Bayou Bath Company up as a venture that "encompasses all that is important to me: family, community revitalization, healthy products and an eco-friendly lifestyle."
Bayou Bath Company is located at 1407 Main St. in Jeanerette. For more information call (337) 399-3384 or visit Facebook.
