WHERE: 1505 Hopkins St., New Iberia, La.

WHAT: Unveiling of Bunk Johnson Mural project dubbed "Fence-tallation"

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

DETAILS:

The Coalition for Bunk Johnson invites the public to attend the unveiling of the Bunk Johnson Mural at a lighting ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. at 1505 S. Hopkins St. in New Iberia. The lighting will take place at 6 p.m.

Funds received through the ArtsSpark grant and private donations last year were used to create the 40 feet-wide mural and colorful LED lighting and signage dubbed a "fence-tallation."

The mural was designed by local artist Jennifer Lee Smith to honor New Iberia musician William "Bunk" Johnson. New Iberia urban designer Phanat Xanamane received $3,263 from ArtSpark, an individual artist stipend funding program supported by the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) and administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA).

The Coalition for Bunk Johnson is formed from neighborhood organizations and artists, including Envision da Berry, West End Council of Neighborhood Associations, and Bunk Johnson Jazz Arts and Heritage Festival.

The artwork will remain at the private lot until the coalition finds a permanent public location.
