We would like to invite all our partners to join us in celebrating the Grand Réveil Acadien (GRA), October 3-12, 2015.
Le Grand Réveil Acadien (The Great Acadian Awakening) celebrate Acadian/Cajun heritage, bringing together Acadians from around the world, and highlighting the importance of the French language for the survival of our culture.
This nine day festival in Acadiana will feature family reunions, Cajun and folk concerts, genealogy lectures, crafts seminars, a traditional Acadian parade called a Tintamarre, and commemoration ceremonies marking the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana. GRA participants will also have the opportunity to attend the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff and Tour du Teche.
Louisiana Acadie is trying to finalize a "calendar of events" for the GRA so that they can promote it. There is a lot of interest from people from around the world, but they are wanting to know more about what is being offered as part of this celebration of Acadian culture.
Nelwyn Hebert with the New Acadia Project will host a GRA event in Loreauville, which will be on the calendar and included in other promotional material.
The more promotions, events, attractions participating, etc. that we can have here in our region, the more likely we are to have people stay longer in our area.
IPCVB will hold special events on Oct. 5-9 from 9-5 at our welcome center in New Iberia. We plan on having music, arts and crafts, prizes, contests, food samplings, coupons, special tours and more for our locals and visitors.
THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please let us know if you can provide:
- Coupons for your shop, restaurant, attraction or event - just e-mail us what you are offering that week (door prize, discount, treats, free gift etc.). We will create the coupon for you and post the promotion on our website.
- Prizes (gift certificates, gift baskets, products etc.)
- Food samples (mini king cakes, boudin, jambalaya etc.)
- Live music - can you or someone you know play/sing Cajun/Zydeco music?
- Arts and Crafts (you can have a table to sell them)
- Cultural games or activities
Take advantage of this great opportunity to promote your business to tourists and locals. You do not have to be present at our event. Just let us know if you can provide something by Feb. 11, 2015. You can also host your own event and we can help you promote.
