Shadows-on-the-Teche

Plein Air Competition

WHO: Shadows-on-the-Teche

WHERE: 317 East Main St. New Iberia, LA 70560

WHAT: Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air Competition

WHEN: Event: April 11-18, 2015/// Deadline for Entry: Feb. 15, 2015

DETAILS:

The Shadows-on-the-Teche will host a juried plein air competition April 11-18, 2015. Artists must submit three digital images of their works for judging by Feb. 15, 2015 to the Shadows. Artist Phil Sandusky will judge and also present a workshop on Friday, April 17.

Artists who are accepted to participate will be asked to submit a $35 fee for their involvement. Prize money will be awarded for the selected top winners at the gala to be held at the end of the April competition.

The Shadows have an historical connection to this style of art. Two members of the Weeks family who lived at Shadows-on-the Teche left their paintings for us to view.

William Weeks Hall made this possible by donating his home to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which opened the site to the public in 1961. Hall was an artist and photographer and his grandmother, Mary Palfrey Weeks, painted beautiful flowers in water color.

In a 1920s photograph, Hall can be seen with two of his artist friends painting in the Shadows front gardens on Main Street. Now, the house and gardens will resume their role as subjects for new artists.

For more information, contact Pat Kahle or Catherine Schramm, 337-369-6446. Visit ShadowsOnTheTeche.org for details and application forms.
