Shadows-on-the-Teche to offer free admission for Civil War Encampments
|
Shadows-on-the-Teche's encampment weekend Nov. 1 - 2, 2014 will be free of charge to all visitors, thanks to a generous donation by Iberia Preservation Alliance.
The Bayou Teche Campaigns were vital to the Federal advance into the heart of Louisiana. Shadows-on-the-Teche will provide visitors with a living picture of what the Civil War era must have been like for the residents of New Iberia.
From 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Civil War re-enactors will portray the invasion of the Teche region, the occupation of Shadows-on-the-Teche in 1863 and other events. They will also present demonstrations, including marching drills, camp life, artillery firing and many other scenarios.
On Saturday at 2 p.m., Iberia Preservation Alliance and the New Iberia Main Street Program will present New Iberia Beneath the Balconies on the Shadows' gallery.
Before the performance, visitors can enjoy "Lunch, Shopping and Music by the Berry Classics" in downtown New Iberia from noon to 2 p.m. Shops will be open and lunch will be available in Bouligny Plaza and at local restaurants.
