Shadows-on-the-Teche to offer Sugar Tour, discounted admission during the La. Sugar Cane Festival
|
WHO: Shadows-on-the-Teche
WHAT: Shadows Pete deGravelles Sugar Tour
WHEN: Monday through Saturday, Sept. 22 - 27, 2014
WHERE: Shadows-on-the-Teche, 317 E. Main St., New Iberia
DETAILS:
In the nineteenth century, the introduction and development of the local sugar industry provided planters David and Mary Weeks with the opportunity to build their family home in the growing town of New Iberia. Today, the family home is known as Shadows-on-the-Teche.
With the celebration of New Iberia's Sugar Cane Festival, the Shadows will present tours focusing on the yearly cycle of historic sugar planters. These tours will be presented Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 through Friday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
On Saturday Sept. 27, the Shadows will open at noon, following the parade on Main Street, and close at 5 p.m. In recognition of the Sugar Cane Festival and National Smithsonian Museum Day, the Shadows will offer two adult tickets for the price of one that day. Visitors can also print a ticket granting free admission for two people from the Smithsonian's website. Regular admission rates apply for Sept. 22-26, 2014.
The Shadows will present the Pete deGravelles Sugar Tour to honor its former board chair, Pete deGravelles. Born into a sugar-growing family, deGravelles remained active in the sugar industry throughout career.
